We’ve been waiting for this Takuji Masuda film for a while now and it looks like we’re getting pretty close.
BUNKER77 is the wild true story of a young American rebel seeking freedom, love, and authenticity in a chaotic world. The film chronicles Clark Gable’s step son and heir to a sugar fortune, Bunker Spreckels. A controversial surf star from the late 60s into the 70s who pushed the limits of riding very short boards in the most critical waves of Hawaii, mentored skateboard legend Tony Alva to his world championship, and collaborated with film auteur Kenneth Anger right before his dynamic life was cut short at 27 in 1977. Opens in NYC on 10/27 & LA on 11/3!
It’s called California Carving, but we just like it ’cause Mr. Chorlton slices and dices it up every which way and makes snowboarding look fun again. Maybe it’s the pickle fork of death that gets us on the switch carves or just those spring days at Mammoth. . .
Remember when The Fourth Phase came out and everyone was debating whether it was a good snowboard movie or not, in spite of the fact that it contained mind-blowing snowboarding? Well, this 18-minute action cut proves that they had the goods even if they may not have packaged it to everyone’s liking. It’s also a reminder of how short our attention spans are and that when it comes to snowboard films the old “action plus music” formula is very difficult to beat. Here, let T-Rice, Mark Landvik, Eric Jackson, Bryan Iguchi, Pat Moore, Mikkel Bang, Cam FitzPatrick, Shin Biyajima, Bode Merrill, Jeremy Jones, Victor de Le Rue, Ben Ferguson, and the rest explain it.
The title of Jeremy Jones‘ new short film Life of Glide is the perfect title for the big mountain master. Jones’ ability to glide through all kinds of hairy situations is legendary and if he can get even a little of that down in this film, it’s going to be well worth checking out. The film premieres soon.
The minds at Mervin have done more to advance boards sports innovation than any one else. We’d list all of Mervin’s firsts and how Mike Olson and Pete Saari were behind all of them but it would take to long. Instead, just kick back and watch the video. Here’s their description.

Jump in the van with Marie-France Roy and Alex Yoder as they weave their way through Scotland, exploring how personal accountability allows for universal land access and old farm shelters enable mountain folks to rove freely. They even find a little snow scattered here and there between the rocks. Tom Petty has died of apparent cardiac arrest according to a story on TMZ. We’ll miss him, but at least we have this video (filled with our friends from skateboarding’s glory days) to remember him by. He was 66.

Attributing his success to the greats that inspired him, Pendleton remarks: “Snowboarding films have always provided me with endless amounts of inspiration. I want this film to reach out to kids out there the same way these films reached me when I was young. This collaborative vision is a true expression of some of the most real and dedicated people in snowboarding.”
Don’t expect to see any action in this clip, because, after all it is one big tease, and the film doesn’t arrive until January 2018. For more info click the link.
