The Gumball Rally 3000 is a race in which a bunch of rich guys (some extremely annoying) race around the world in their six-figure cars and party every night with strippers and/or highly educated, intelligent, caring women who dress and act like them.
To honor these daring young men and their driving machines Nixon Watches has created a special timepiece and two headphone styles which will be sold beginning May 1, 2010 only in retailers that are on the Gumball route.
Created in collaboration with Gumball 3000, Nixon’s limited edition Rubber Player features a black silicone case/band with a custom gold caseback, crown and hands and co-branded artwork on the case and will retail for $200 USD. Joining the Rubber Player in the Gumball collection is The Whip and The Wire, two of Nixon’s most popular headphones. Each headphone model in this collection is available in a matte black finish with gold accents and custom Nixon x Gumball artwork and will retail for $60 USD (The Whip) and $75 USD (The Wire). All three products will be available and on-sale at Nixon retailers along the rally route in London, Amsterdam, Boston, Quebec, Toronto and New York City beginning May 1st.
There may be a worse reason to buy a new watch or pair of headphones. If we come up with it, we’ll let you know.
When we first heard about Jon Rose’s iPhone app Code Red, we thought it was just one more notch in the misogynist surf industry gun. That’s kind of whatCleveland Plains Dealer columnist Connie Schultz thought, too. Then she gave Jon Rose another shot:
I sat down at my keyboard poised to write a primer on foreplay. You know, take out the garbage, look at us and not the score when we talk to you, don’t tell us we look “fine” after we’ve spent three hours getting ready. The usual. . . Then I checked out the so-called humanitarian behind this stunt. . . That’s when I found wavesforwater.org, which Rose founded “for surfers and surf travelers to help bring clean drinking water to villages all over the world.”
She also discovered that all the money Rose makes from Code Red goes to wavesforwater.org. That’s when she decided that Mr. Rose was okay, after all. Even if he is responsible for an iPhone app that tracks women’s menstrual cycles for cluelss dudes.
The NBA Mix Master series is a limited edition, and only 100 headphones of each team and player will be made. Once they’re sold out, they’re gone for good. Skullcandy unveiled the lineup this week, but the NBA Mix Master headphones will be available to purchase on the Skullcandy Web site and at select Apple Store locations in cities that match up with the featured teams on April 20th, for $299 each.
Achem, did they say $299? Add Skullcandy to the “action ball lovers” list that already includes Vans and Girl Skateboards/Neff and add anyone who buys them to the “people with the wrong priorities” list.
It reads more like an April Fools joke, but according to theiTunes store surfer Jon Rose’s new Code Red menstruation charting iPhone app is the real thing.
Code Red was co-created by pro-surfer turned humanitarian Jon Rose who would return to his wife after weeks on the road unsure of where she was on her cycle, and therefore, afraid of what to expect. . . The recurring stress that always followed inspired them to find a way to help alleviate their shared aggravation over the monthly houseguest. . . “Code Red will be a life saver for thousands of guys out there,” said Kevin Harrison, Co-Creator, “Its each guys personal color coded Terror Alert System…”
And for only $1.99 in the iTunes store you too can get called a “sodding dick” every time the woman in your life looks at your phone.
Screw Apple. . . Neff does it all on a Sony Vaio, apparently. At least that’s what this new Sony ad featuring Shaun Neff appears to say. Borrowing heavily from the wearing lots of shirts Youtube meme the ad is cool, funny, and raw, but will it encourage anyone to buy a PC over a Mac? Hell, no!
Mike V: Do or Die focuses on Mike’s path, passions and career. It will feature an overview of his evolution as an individual and his lifelong accomplishments in the history of skateboarding. Players start from the legendary ‘Bones Brigade’ Powell-Peralta era and can improve their skills while gaining experience to unlock exclusive game content including a selection of over one hundred items to choose from. They can customize their character, board, wheels and car.
Not sure that’s enough to hook us, but we haven’t played it. Click here for Adam Sullivan’s review or check it out for yourself.
A few EA Black Box Skate 3 screen captures were released today and it just keeps looking more and more like video every generation. Makes us wonder what will happen when we can just put our own face on a player and crank out banging video parts without even having to go outside or get wrecked. What will that do to the skate industry?
The Association of Surfing Professionals is jumping into the iPhone pool with their own branded app called ASPtogo. The app features a lot of what we talked about yesterday with the Quiksilver Live. It has live scores, heat results, photos, videos and connects to live video feeds. ASP CEO Brodie Carr thinks is great.
“The ASP iPhone application is the latest development we’re activating to bring the world’s best surfers to our global audience wherever they may be,” Brodie Carr, ASP International CEO, said. “With access to literally dozens of high-calibre events for a single download is a pretty good deal and I can proudly say that I’m the first customer.”
One thing Brodie and the ASP forget to mention in their announcement is that that app costs $4.99. And that is expensive for something that is free elsewhere. Looks like we’ll be sticking with Quiksilver Live for a while.
Does the up coming February 26 kick off of the 2010 ASP World Tour have you jonesing for a little Quiksilver Pro Snapper Rocks action? Well, there’s an app for that. Quiksilver has a new Quiksilver Live iPhone app out just in time for the 2010 Quiksilver Pro at Snapper Rocks.
Coming on the heels of last fall’s Van Triple Crown iPhone app, the Quiksilver Live app (available now for free in iTunes store) allows users to watch the event’s live video feed via 3G and WI-Fi, view live scoring, and even send messages to the announcers. The app comes loaded with many of the heat’s on demand from 2009 (we forgot how stormy it was) as well as full video coverage of the Road to the Pro and Brooko’s Updates, and, the Windguru surf forcast for Snapper Rocks.
If the app features an alert that says when the event is on, that alone is worth the free download. Click the link to start following along or follow the jump for larger screen shots.
