The highlight of the day (aside from a live performance by Jane’s Addiction) was when philanthropist Charles Annenberg announced a special gift of $275,000 fro Explore.com and the Annenberg Foundation to finish the Watts Skatepark Project. Oh, and there were apparently some “celebrity” included on the 1,000 person guest list.
Celebrities including Tony Hawk, Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Johnny Knoxville, Chuck Liddell, Leeza Gibbons, Arsenio Hall, Ben Harper, Patrick Dempsey, BMX legend Mat Hoffman and legendary skaters Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, and Mike Vallely enjoyed the interactive booths while waiting for the stage and vert ramp to be dried by crews.
It’s not a party until Arsenio Hall shows up. Guests said it pretty much rained all day, but that didn’t stop Tony and friends from putting on a demo on the vert ramp or from doing great work for skateboarding.
Game development company Robomodo, the group responsible for Tony Hawk’s Ride and new Tony Hawk’s Shred game (and controller), has reportedly cut between 30 and 60 employees, according to a story on Kotaku.com.
Sources tell Kotaku that the layoffs were affected in some way by news that Tony Hawk publisher Activision had taken the franchise away from the developer. One source told us that a wrap party planned for Tony Hawk: Shred with the star attending was pushed back to November without notice prior to today’s layoffs.
If celebrities like Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon are down with Skullycandy headphones then they’ve got to be good, right?
Reese Witherspoon took a break on the set of This Means War yesterday, and between wardrobe changes she donned some seriously stylish Skullcandy headphones. Skullcandy is known for its amazing quality, which includes deep bass and crisp highs, so it’s no wonder the pint-sized star chose these over-the-ear cans that keep her music flowing.
Wonder if this post on Geek Sugar is a paid placement? Kind of sounds like it, no?
The latest issue of ESPN: The Magazine features athletes (all kinds of athletes) naked in their pages in what is known as the annual Body Issue. Kelly Slater’s photo looks a little like this. We’re not sure what the story is, but it looks like Kelly just made an early morning escape from someone’s bedroom window, jumped down into a muddy flower bed, and is sprinting across the lawn with her brothers, uncles, and cousins hot on his tail. . .
Being a celebrity is hard work, especially if you’re Bam Margera. While posing on the Rolling Stone 2010 Hot Party (Friday, October 1, 2010) at the Mirage he put on a little stunt man demo with former heroin fan, porn actor, and author Brandon Novak.

Tony Hawk has a new book out and this time he’s written it with his sister Pat Hawk (who has time to write their own books these days). It’s titled, How Did I Get Here? The Ascent of an Unlikely CEO.
Fast Company spoke to Tony about the book and asked him what his biggest mistake has been.
I was 18 or 19 — I was just signing my name on the dotted line everywhere I went. This one company was making Velcro wallets — really bad pink and blue ones. Probably the worst part for me was it ripped off the Vision Street Wear logo and made them say TONY HAWK GEAR. I didn’t even see them until they were in the store. That was the tipping point for me: I learned not to allow someone else to use my likeness and my name like that.
We just can’t get enough of Shaun White around here and that’s about to change because Ubisoft, the makers of Shaun White Skateboarding, has just announced that Shaun’s game will soon support stereoscopic displays on 3DTVs, according to a post on Gamasutra.
Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the title will use Sensio 3D technology, which Ubisoft last used in last year’s release of Avatar: The Game. . . “The gaming experience is very sensitive to image quality, and we know from past collaboration with Sensio that the company’s Sensio 3D format delivers the highest-quality images,” said Shaun White Skateboarding Executive Producer Patrick Naud.
It will be great to see that rich, thick, forest of red hair flowing right out of the TV as Shaun shreds past. Wonder if Shaun will do some signature Oakley 3-D glasses to go along with it?
When the bloated former pop singer Britney Spears goes shopping for a new skateboard she heads straight to her local mall and drops in on Zumiez, according to a story on People.com.
Britney Spears had an active afternoon with her boys Preston and Jayden: The trio headed to the Westfield Topanga, the pop star’s neighborhood shopping mall in Canoga Park, Calif., where Spears stopped into Zumiez, a snowboarding and skateboarding shop.
