Stolen directly from The Oregonian:
Janna Meyen, the most successful Oregonian in Winter X Games history, has plenty left to accomplish. . . . On the slopes. And off. . . . One of Meyen’s main missions: Be a better role model. She wants to shed her party-girl reputation. Anyone in the snowboarding industry, she said, would say the same thing: “For over a decade, that was my image — leading the party train.” . . . The 30-year-old slopestyle boarder also said she has yet to ride the perfect run — at the X Games, or even on her home mountain of Mount Bachelor, by herself, without the hype and pressure of the year’s biggest snow sports competition. . . . “I feel like I still have quite a bit of potential I haven’t tapped into,” Meyen said. “That potential keeps driving me.”

Every few years Dennis Zeller gets a little nod from the snowboard media for Sawpit Snowboards, his homegrown, deep roots snowboard company. In the age of commercial exploitation of everything we snowboarders hold dear, it’s nice to occasionally check back in on Zeller because no matter what you say, they guy’s got soul in loads.
Gerry Lopez, famous surfer of the ’60s and ’70s, has one of Zeller’s boards. So does actress Daryl Hannah. . . . “What’s unique about my boards is that I shift the core and the side-cut two or three inches back to make it ride more like surfing than skateboarding,” Zeller said.

From the Daily Telegraph:
A MAJOR search is underway at Bondi Beach today after a dead surfer’s body was spotted floating in heavy seas. . . . An Air Ambulance Emergency Helicopter was scouring between Bondi and Tamarama, assisted by lifeguards on jet-skis and water police, after the body, attached to a surf board was spotted floating at the southern headland about 7.45am. . . . The body was about 30m from MacKenzies Point when it was initially spotted.

Surfermagazine.com editor Zach Weisberg gets the chance to interview Richard Woolcott about Volcom’s recent purchase of Electric Visual and he only asks three questions. . . really Zach? And you’re calling that an exclusive? Here’s the answer to the first question:
Electric is a company that we have always felt would be a good fit for Volcom when the time was right. When Electric approached us that they were interested in looking for a strategic partner, we rolled up our sleeves and went to work. We believed we were the right company for them and fortunately everything worked out for both of us.

Apparently all those rumors about Shaun White leaving Volcom just might be true if this press release on Transworldsnowboarding.com is correct:
Target today announces the future Shaun White for Target collection. The line will feature clothing for young men and boys and will be available in late July. . . This collection will build on a significant relationship between Target and Shaun, as he has been riding for Target for nearly six years. A professional skateboarder and snowboarder, Shaun is considered by many to be the most recognizable athlete in action sports.
Hell, why not.

Skate and Annoy was nice enough to link up everything we need for an overview of Gus Van Sant’s Paranoid Park. It’s about skateboarding and being kids and hopping trains and a death. Check it.

While the San Francisco Zoo had a tiger break of of his pen, the Hillcrest Park Zoo, in Clovis, New Mexico is having the opposite problem. It appears that some skateboarders broke into the zoo to skate a “culvert” that zoo officials say “is perfect for skateboarding.”
Hillcrest Park Zoo Director Herschel Arnold said Friday when employees discovered a full length cut in the 8-foot perimeter fence on the back side of the zoo, they quickly surmised skateboarders had gone through the fence to get to a concrete culvert on the other side. . . “It’s got a cement ramp that is just perfect for skateboarders and they took advantage of it,” he said.
Officials fixed the fence and were glad that none of the animals were molested.

A week ago surfer/physicist Garret Lisi’s “Theory of Everything” had the physics world rocking. Hollywood was knocking down his door and things were looking great. However, that has now changed apparently.
Garrett Lisi, an unemployed physicist with no university affiliation who spent his time surfing in Hawaii, had come up with the Holy Grail of science: a theory unifying quantum physics and Einstein’s theory of relativity. . . The media went wild. However, in the last few weeks several physics blogs have uncovered a problem with Lisi’s idea: it doesn’t work.
Just read the story. There is no way we can explain this anyway.
