It’s not the ranch, but from the looks of this bowl, it’s probably better. Skate and Annoy has more details of a new skatepark in Del Mar, California which reportedly has some Chris Miller and Tony Alva features. Hopefully they don’t use that fence to keep people out.

Just got the official email. Mammoth Mountain opens tomorrow, November 3, 2008.
A powerful storm hit the Eastern Sierra over the weekend dropping up to 18 inches of snow on Mammoth Mountain. By late Sunday, resort operators made the decision to open the slopes for skiing and riding on Monday, November 3, a full 10 days prior to schedule.
Kind of late notice but it looks like we were right. Tickets are $52 and the Broadway express will begin running at 9 AM.

It’s a party. It’s an art show. And the money is going to a good cause. Plus, Bob looks like he could still use a Tijuana Panthers crew cut, baby.

The Great Conadian Heli-Skiing company has what we think is the perfect season pass for time of economic uncertainty Their platinum pass costs $100,000 and is good for all you can ride heli access plus a single room in the lodge whenever you want it. The pass is transferable, but only one person can use it at a time.
We’re thinking if we can get nine friends go in on it together on this. . .

Usually skateboarding at school ends in tickets or running from the cops. At New York City’s East Side Community High School it can result in one more A on the transcript thanks to their skateboarding physical education elective.
What started in February as an after-school program run by a volunteer has turned into what school officials believe is New York City’s only skateboarding class for credit.
It’s odd how simple doing the right thing can be.

The Houston Chronicle’s Lisa Gray recounts the sad and inspiring story of how Johnny Romano, the seven-year-old skateboarder with leukemia, turned pro and unselfishly donated his royalty checks to kids who were worse off than he.
Johnny donated his royalties to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and posed for photos with enormous cardboard checks for thousands of dollars. . . . He skated on Fuel TV. He donated Johnny Romano skateboards to charity and autographed them for fans. . . He liked being a Make-A-Wish benefactor, not a recipient. . . . But his luck didn’t hold. In May, with only 10 more chemo treatments on his schedule, he relapsed.
Johnny died on September 23, 2008, but he will not soon be forgotten. The annual Texas Skate Jam For Make-A-Wish scheduled for November 8, 2008 at the Southside Skatepark in Houston has been renamed The Johnny Romano Skate Jam For Make-A-Wish and Johnny’s parents are starting a foundation to support research on childhood leukemia.

Bob Spellmire, 82, was competing in the 2nd Annual Senior Surfing Olympics in Huntington Beach on Saturday November 1, 2008 when he was hit by a series of waves that knocked him to his back, according to a story in the Orange County Register.
The attempt looked hopeful as he rode the whitewash for a few seconds to shore. But when wave after wave engulfed him and took him under as he lay on his back and tried to hang onto the board, surfer Mike Downey jumped in to help pull him to safety on the sand.
Spellmire said he was okay, but “pooped” after his adventure and plans to train for next year’s event.

How’s that for a nice Stump Alley costume on Halloween? SoCal needs to get their gear ready, because with the storms stacking up off the Pacific it looks like Mammoth Mountain’s opening day 08/09 could be only days away: literally. Stay tuned.
