French Phenom Killian Guerin has put out another edit from somewhere around the world and this time it’s the Telos. Aptly called The Teloscopia, it’s just another check in from Killian showing how much more he progresses and charges with every edit. Perfect viewing for a Friday afternoon “at work.”
Monster Children, the Australian born, sideways action culture magazine, has announced the transfer of their SoCal office from Eagle Rock, California to “a new workspace and gallery” in Far Chinatown that they will share with Pabst Blue Ribbon. The new spot looks exactly as we would expect — sparse, empty, exposed brick, concrete and plywood floors, a pinball machine, and the occaional PBR logo/product.
Located in a renovated warehouse in the industrial area just north of downtown and across from LA’s State Historic Park, 1700 Naud will also house offices for both Monster Children and Pabst, along with temporary work spaces in an area of LA that is attracting substantial investment from the creative community. Neighbors include David Chang’s new Majordomo restaurant, NYC’s Baby’s All Right, Paradigm Entertainment Agency, Werkartz artist studio, and the groundbreaking street art and graffiti exhibitionBeyond the Streets.

Tom Wolfe, an innovative journalist and novelist whose technicolor, wildly punctuated prose brought to life the worlds of California surfers, car customizers, astronauts and Manhattan’s moneyed status-seekers in works like “The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby,” “The Right Stuff” and “Bonfire of the Vanities,” died on Monday in a Manhattan hospital. He was 88.
We will miss his wit, eye, and especially his monstrously huge novels that we’ve always loved lugging around.
The biggest news in skateboarding over the weekend of May 12, 2018 was that Tony Hawk had rounded the half century mark. And to prove that he’s not slowing down he did this. . . ouch, yet impressive. Here’s to 50 more, Tony. (Follow the jump for a little behind the scenes 720 pain and proof that T-Hawk is not getting soft.)
Seems like everyone is getting a shot at Dirk Ziff’s surfing pool. Just last week Tony Hawk, Shaun White, and Eddie Vedder got some. Sadly, though we scoured social media for hours, this is all the footage we could find of that historic event. It’s true, our Internet skills are definitely on the fade.
Tom Schaar, the defending Vans Pool Party champ returned for the repeat in the 2018 pro division on May 5, 2018 at the Vans Skatepark at The Outlets at Orange. Chris Miller took the legends (of course) and Sandro Dias snagged a Masters division win.
With three divisions establishing today’s elite top Pros, Masters and undisputed Legends of bowl riding, the Vans Pool Party is unique in all of skateboarding for bringing together the biggest names in deep bowl skateboarding to battle it out in the legendary Vans Combi bowl at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, California. We’re from the “if you’re going to ride a bike you should pedal it” camp, but some people want to save all their energy for the waves. Big wave pioneer Jeff Clark is apparently one of them. That’s likely why he’s partnered with Vintage Electric Bikes on the Jeff Clark Signature Cruz. Roll on, Mr. Clark.

Those who follow the glamorous world of high stakes competitive surfboard shaping will not find it surprising that Santa Cruz, California’s Travis Reynolds took the 2018 Icons of Foam Tournament of Champions Shape-off at the Boardroom Show in Del Mar, California on Sunday, May 6, 2018, but Travis was shocked.
“Wow. I’m blown away,” said Reynolds. “It means a lot to compete against these fine shapers…to have my family here… it’s incredible. What an honor to win the Marc Andreini Shape-off and to compete against this crew of past champions. I’ve been thinking about our friend Chris Lundy who passed away recently. I dedicate this victory to Chris.”
Congrats to Travis. For all the details from the shape-off and the rest of the show, please follow the jump.
Just for the sake of logging it, we’re posting this photo of Jordy Smith from a Central Valley wave pool event held the weekend of May 4-6, 2018. The event’s organizers were very impressed with the event, apparently, believing they’ve changed the face of competitive surfing. Good for them.
