Anastasia Ashley and Gretchen Bleiler will be helping two “adventure-seeking guys. . . perform an itinerary of tasks designed to K.O. the B.O. with Old Spice,” according to a post on WalletPop.
The guys, chosens as part of Old Spice’s Fresh Collection Intern Challenge, will split up and spend four days with either Ashley in Fiji or Bleiler in Zermatt, Switzerland. There they will do silly stunts to promote Old Spice like this:
Don traditional Swiss lederhosen and tear up the mountain while snowboarding some of the world’s best snow. Attach 10 Velcro-padded sticks of Old Spice Matterhorn to the Lederhosen suspenders and hand out to 5 other skiers and snowboarders on the mountain – while yelling out “You smell like Matterhorn!!” – at the same time. Use your helmet cam (provided by Old Spice) to capture video of you in action – and reaction shots.
In Fiji Ashley will apparently hook the boy up with a lesson on how to blow a conch shell. We’ll just leave it at that.

The S.M.A.K. Gallery in Gent, Belgium will be hosting a retrospective of Ed Templeton’s art April 3 to June 13, 2010 titled The Cemetery of Reason.
The Cemetery of Reason is conceived as a mid-career retrospective of the American artist Ed Templeton. The The exhibition tells the story of a pro skateboarder, a photographer, a drawer, a painter, etc. A story which, although it focuses on his own life and those of the people around him, transcends the autobiographical and exposes social and societal phenomena unhesitatingly but without pointing a finger. . . The Cemetery of Reason takes the form of a whirlwind of photos, sculptures, drawings and paintings. In some cases, images are clustered by subject and reveal certain phenomena or events, but not in an imperative manner.

We’ve been wondering what Snowboard Journal co-founder Jon Foster has been up to lately. And thanks to the La Jolla Light newspaper we’re learning a little more about the photographer who made so many snowboarders famous. The Light asked Jon who he’d like to have over for a dinner party. This is what he said:
Jim Morrison; Hunter S. Thompson; Helmut Newton; Natalie Portman; the Dalai Lama; Mark Procopio; my sister Kathleen, who died in 1984; and Olivia Wilde.
Having dined with one of the people on his list we can’t say we disagree. For the rest of the interview follow the link.

On March 15, 2010 Richard “Wooly” Woolcott sold another 20,000 shares of Volcom stock as part of his “sell 20,000 shares a month” program. This month, however, his shares are only $375,400. He appears to have sold at least 20,000 shares each month since September 2009.
But don’t worry. He still owns 10 percent of the company.

These are the stories we love: a young surfer works hard, helps create a successful clothing company that goes public, gets his loot, works hard for years, and then drifts off to Hawaii to live, surf, and be with his family away from the daily grind of life behind the velcro curtain. We’re not saying that is what Volcom Vice President of Marketing Troy Eckert is doing exactly, but that’s how we’re going to take the news that was released yesterday.
What was it? Effective May 15, 2010 Troy will become Volcom’s “Hawaii Strategic Director.” He’ll be moving to the Islands in June. Rolling into his former marketing position at VeeCo will be Ryan Immegart, 33, the co-founder of Volcom Entertainment.
“Hawaii radiates outward to many different cultures, and it’s very important to remain deeply rooted on all levels,” said Eckert. “I’ve always had a strong connection and passion for Hawaii and this move provides me with an opportunity to develop innovative ways to further build our brand in this important and influential market. This is going to be a very exciting journey.”
We’re stoked for Troy, Ryan, and Volcom. Youth is the establishment, right?

Mark Sullivan and the Tailgate Alaska crew have resurrected Valdez’s King of the Hill extreme snowboarding contest for April 2010 after a 10 year hiatus.
“It’s the craziest, deepest, powder you can find. It’s the best place in the world to snowboard. It’s pretty scary, and big, and fast―everything is 20 times bigger than anywhere else in the world,” said legend Marc Frank Montoya about the event. . . “These runs will demand massive airs, Cro-Magnon leg strength and cat-like board-handling agility. It’s the ultimate test of a professional snowboarder in one run, pitting the hard-charging exuberance of youth with the accrued mastery of those with years of experience,” emphasized Mark Sullivan (founder of Tailgate Alaska and organizer of RECCO® King of the Hill.)
This invite only event will crown a new King of the Hill on April 3, 2010. Follow the jump for all the details. [click to continue…]

Steve Murray, 49, the former President of VF Corp’s Action Sports Coalition (Vans and Reef) is leaving the company to become President of Urban Outfitters, according to a release posted on CNN/Money.
“Steve is more than we expected with his vast global experience and brilliant track record in growing lifestyle brands and retail concepts. He is a perfect fit for Urban Outfitters, and brings tremendous creativity and leadership to our organization, along with a deep familiarity of global youth culture from his nearly two decades of work with the Vans and Reebok brands. I am thrilled to have Steve join our executive team and am confident he will play a pivotal role in the future development of the Urban Outfitters brand and URBN,” said UO’s CEO Glen T. Senk.
Seems like the perfect time for a career switch up. Murray had a great ride at Vans as the affordable shoes came back into style and numbers bloomed all around. Now, diving into retail, Murray will land first into one of the roughest segments in the fashion business. It’s hard to believe retail could get any worse, but we wouldn’t bet against against it. We wish him the best of luck.
For all the details, follow the jump.
