Yesterday, Greg Bretz, Louie Vito, Gretchen Bleiler, Elena Height, and Kelly Clark joined other US Winter Olympic Team members and finally got to live their dream of visiting the White House and meeting the President and First Lady. Sadly, a downpour messed up the entire presentation and everyone was forced to move indoors.
Check out Yobeat’s “exclusive Nick Lipton coverage” for the way he wishes the day had gone.

Shane Wallace appears to have been busy these past few months. We’re not spilling all the details, but if you want to keep a little closer tabs on everything going down at OK Skate in Rancho Cucamonga, California it might not be a bad idea to follow them at @okskatecom and on facebook.
Ok Skate’s grand opening is May 8, 2010, but we’ll keep you posted.

We can’t explain how annoyed we’ve become with all the Grenade Games Six crap that has hit us on facebook the past couple weeks. But now that The Games have begun, we’re not so bummed. Check out this video and decide for yourself if you want to follow the rest of the week’s videos on the Grenade Games Vimeo Channel.

At certain times of the year Frequency: The Snowboarder’s Journal publisher Jeff Galbraith (pictured above left) has been known to get up early, trudge out into the cold with his dog, and blast low-flying, web-footed birds from the sky with a 12-gauge shotgun. While we have no interest in doing the same, nor in watching Mr. Galbraith’s bird murdering missions live and in person, we do still enjoy reading about them.
In the May/June issue of the Sierra Club’s Sierra Magazine (whose Acting Deputy Editor just happens to be Steve Hawk (yes, that one)), Jeff has written touchingly about hunting in Washington State’s Whatcom Wildlife Area with his dog Dr. Gonzo Yellow Dog and friends in a story titled On Ducks, Jobs, and Farmlands Forever.
In the story he mentions his favorite flowering shrub (the alder), LEED-certified subdivisions, and former MBHC snowboarding badass and current Shell Oil employee Dan Donnelly.
Yes, it is a strange mix, but read it anyway.

What do you do if winning an Olympic Gold Medal in snowboarding doesn’t bring the breakfast cereal, big-box retailer clothing money falling in like rain? If you’re two-time Olympic medalist Ross Powers you go back to your alma mater, apparently.
According to a news item posted on the Stratton Mountain School website, Ross Powers is the school’s new Snowboarding Program Director.
“Ross returns to us with more than a decade of experience competing at the highest levels of world-wide competition,” said Christopher Kaltsas, SMS Headmaster. “Ross is one of the most highly profiled figures in the history of the Halfpipe snowboard circuit, and we are pleased to have him join our staff.”
Ross, who is replacing Mike Mallon, will join the staff at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. At least he’s not teaching gym.

Oddly enough, the last time we were standing on the beach at Trestles we were right next to Bo Bridges. Truthfully, he’s a pretty good guy to stand next to (especially if you can shoulder hop his settings). We blamed his superior images on the size of his lens (600 mm). Now that we’ve seen this Canon Live Learning Pro Surf & Lifestle Photo Workshop flyer we’re not so sure.
On May 8-9, 2010 (during the Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro) Mr. Bridges will be at Trestles sharing his action photo knowledge with paying civilians.
Bo will teach you his strategy on how to photograph surfing action, including an introduction into the world of HD Video. You will also learn how to capture surf lifestyle with environmental portraits of models using different lighting techniques. Feedback of your images will be given and his post-processing methods will be shared to further enhance your images from the weekend.
The only downside? The two-day workshop costs $600.00. Then again, one cover and the whole class is paid for. If only we were saving up for a 7D. Click here to register.

The “Our Park” video was posted to Youtube by Hybebeast TV and explains how Nike’s plans to build a skate plaza in Tokyo’s Miyashita Park aren’t sitting well with the artists who frequent the park, nor the homeless people who live there. Check it out.

This silly contraption is the G-Wheel Speedgo. From the looks of it you stand on it like a skateboard and then control the speed with a hand cable. Two things are certain: it is made in China and if you buy 51 of them they’re only $134 a piece. Still not sure that’s any kind of a deal. . .
