Jeff Grosso Still Loves Skateboarding

by The Editors on January 21, 2011

With all the Jeff Grosso hype going down lately, it’s nice to see that Vans is taking a look at the man behind the myth with a new video series titled Jeff Grosso’s Love Letters to Skateboarding. It’s supposedly about “whatever Jeff wants it to be about” and that sounds just right to us.

Mark Visser Surfs The Night Fantastic

by The Editors on January 21, 2011

Mark Visser Rides JAWS at Night! from Fortrus Sports on Vimeo.

With the hoopla surrounding The Eddie we missed this yesterday. But armed with NASA quality lights “international big wave surfer” Mark Visser hit jaws at night during the January 20, 2011 monster swell. With the lights Visser seems much easier to spot in the whitewater. The footage will be included in the documentary series 9 Lives.

The Eddie Is Off For Today

by The Editors on January 20, 2011

Waimea 3

Sadly, The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau will not run today (Thursday, January 20, 2011) because the swell, though occasionally delivering waves over the 20 foot mark, was not consistent enough for the contest to run.

“This was just not an Eddie day,” said co-contest director Glen Moncata. “When Eddie wants us to run, the waves will come.”

It would be so easy for Quiksilver to force the event because of all the effort they put into almost making this happen, but they did an amazingly honorable thing in not running the contest and keeping The Eddie alive for another epic day at Waimea. You have to respect that.

There are still six weeks left in the window, so it’s definitely not over yet.

Shaun White Blowback In Full Effect

by The Editors on January 20, 2011

Last night CNN broadcast a little profile on Shaun White. It was part of their Revealed program and the videos have gotten Shaun nothing but grief from the independent snowboard media.

Snowbroader.eu said the profile was:

…full of ridiculous claims, everyone just saying how awesome he is, including himself, all the footage was provided by sponsors and advertisers, and we could go on and on. So if you don’t know what to do right now, check how CNN revealed Shaun White.

Yobeat in a post titled: CNN Has Nothing Better to Cover Than Shaun White by Shaun Blanco said:

In fact, this whole program reminded me of a Transworld article. All the footage was provided by sponsors and advertisers, The “editorial” is provided by someone nobody even knows, all claims are ridiculous, all the riders input is strictly worthless sound bites we’ve heard a million times before, and they call it important.

We haven’t watched it yet, but we’re going to just as soon as we link all this video up. . . follow the jump for the rest.

by The Editors on January 19, 2011

1295392742 Af11A thin, white male in his mid-teens to early 20s robbed Bangor, Maine’s Penobscot County Federal Credit Union late Tuesday afternoon (January 18, 2011) just before it closed, according to a story in the Bangor Daily News.

The suspect was wearing a white long-sleeve sweatshirt with “Billabong” written on it, black sunglasses, black gloves and bluejeans, as can be seen in credit union surveillance video released to the news media. . . Though police converged upon the crime scene within seconds, the suspect managed to elude them and remained at large Tuesday evening.

The shred habit can be expensive.
