On Monday morning (February 7, 2011) word began to spread around the snowboard world that the 35-year-old snowboarder who died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Colorado’s Eldora Mountain Resort was former pro snowboarder, and Rockies Stepchild Snowboards, Airblaster, Krew and Supra rep Scotty Goodale.
As the crew at Stepchild said on their site:

For those that had the pleasure of knowing Scotty, he was one of the kindest and humblest individuals and was a positive inspiration to everyone he came into contact with. Scotty was a very passionate person. He loved snowboarding, skateboarding and above all he loved people. His eyes lit up whenever he talked about the people in his life-especially his wife and son.

Nearly everyone we’ve spoken to remembers Scotty as the best friend anyone could ever have. In a comment on Boardistan C3 World Wide Sales Manager Johan Malkoski said Goodale, “was a dad, husband and one hell of a shred. . . He was a great kid that was never with out a smile and always lit up a room with his laughter.” Working Holiday’s Dan McNamara said Goodale “was one of the greatest guys you could have ever met. ”

Milosport’s George Johnston, who worked with Goodale, said there was absolutely nothing Goodale would not do for his friends. “I was just glad I was here snowboarding when I got the news,” Johnson told us at the WWSRA On-Snow at Lake Tahoe’s Alpine Meadows. “Or I don’t know how I would have handled it.”

A memorial fund has been created to help Goodale’s wife, and son. Donations can be sent directly to the following address:

Jennifer Goodale
c/o Crist Mortuary
3395 Penrose Place
Boulder CO 80301
Phone: (303) 442-4411

Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Services to celebrate Scotty’s life are planned for Sunday, February 13, 2011 in Boulder, Colorado. The location has not yet been announced. We will update this post with more info as it arrives.

Tony Hawk Files For Divorce Again, Again

by The Editors on February 9, 2011

1297109638 Tony-Hawk-290We really were going to ignore this whole story, but then it got so big that we figured we’d have to put it in the log for posterity sake.

On Friday, February 4, 2010, (ten days before Valentine’s Day) Tony Hawk reportedly filed for divorce in San Diego, California from his third wife Lhotse Merriam, according to US Magazine and nearly every other celebrity media outlet (except Perez Hilton).

“We have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” the parents of two-year-old Kadence Clover told UsMagazine.com in a joint statement. “We remain deeply committed and loving parents to our daughter, and out of respect for that responsibility we ask that people honor our family’s privacy during this important time of transition. Thank you for your understanding.”

The couple was married for five years. Without going into all the rumors, we’ll just say something we’ve said several times before: we hope Tony eventually finds what he’s looking for because he certainly seems optimistic about the institution of marriage. Plus, by now he probably has something close to a Massey Prenup all dialed and ready to sign.

Go211.com Traffic Returns To Reality

by The Editors on February 9, 2011

Go211 Reach

We were always skeptical of Go211.com’s comically optimistic traffic number reporting. Now, it appears that whatever magic former CEO Sean Aruda was doing to prop up site traffic is not longer being done in his absence.

According to Alexa.com Go211.com’s reach has dropped 96.3 percent over the past six months and is now back down to where we always thought it was: just a little less than ours.

Friedberg New IASC Executive Director

by The Editors on February 9, 2011

Josh FriedbergAlready Been Done mastermind Josh Friedberg is going to be pretty busy next month as he takes over the Executive Director position at the International Association of Skateboard Companies. He and Rob Brink just launched the second “issue” of ABD and now Friedberg will be neck-deep in skateboarding business politics. If anyone can handle this, it’s Friedberg.

“I’m honored to be chosen as Executive Director by such an accomplished group as the IASC Board,” says Friedberg. “It’s a heavyweight room and their support gets me excited to tackle the challenges at hand. I believe IASC truly succeeds when every skateboard company small and large is compelled to join because of both the benefits IASC can provide their business and the work we do as a whole to support skateboarding. With the combined strength of all our members I’m going to do everything I can to make IASC an indispensable resource for the future growth of the skateboard industry.”

Congrats, Josh. Follow the jump for all the official details.

Mammoth’s Snowboarding History Part 1

by The Editors on February 9, 2011

Mammoth Mountain’s RPT video series returns with part one of the history of snowboarding at Mammoth and June Mountain. Oddly enough, there are a couple people in this video that look strangely familiar. Deja vu or something like that. . .

Supreme x Lady Gaga

by The Editors on February 9, 2011

Gaga

She’s got an amazing voice and tickles the ivories like few women can, but we’ve never actually enjoyed looking at Lady Gaga. That may have changed with Terry Richardson photos of the Lady for Purple Magazine. Who knew that all she needed to look reasonably normal was a Supreme deck and some shades. Click the link for the rest.

Spy x Ken Block x Zumiez

by The Editors on February 8, 2011

Kb SpySpy Optic just released an eight-piece collection of their standard issue sunglasses modified by Ken Block. They say the limited edition run is in the “spirit of all things Block.” The catch? They are only available at Zumiez and Zumiez.com. You know. The mall store that specializes in rally cars, rally car fashion, and rally car super stars. . . oh, wait. No?

We’ll apologize, but we continue to be fascinated by what Block has been able to do with his personal brand after selling DC Shoes to Quiksilver in 2004. There is no better second act in action sports.

My Secret Wave Garden

by The Editors on February 8, 2011

Yesterday, close to five different people emailed us about footage from some mysto wave pool that looks to produce a close to perfect peeling left (thanks to all of you).

The only clue to more information is the handscrawled Wave-Garden website which includes an address in San Sebastien, Spain, and a pretty strong hint that more information is coming on February 15, 2011.

The makers could not have tried harder to make this a “viral video hit,” but we still fell for it.
