This is for everyone around the world who believes it silly that snowboarders live in Southern California. Mt. Baldy (where all Todd Richard’s power footage was shot) is 45 miles from downtown LA. Go ahead and weep. It’s okay.

The DC Mountain Lab in Glenwild, Utah’s The Ranches at The Preserve is up for sale, according to a story in the Park Record. It seems Ken Block is ready to move on and is only asking $6.9 million for the historic shred palace.
The DC Mountain Lab has been the cause of some arguments over the years, so to make peace Block agreed to remove man-made obstacles such as jumps and rails. . . Realtor Paul Benson is courting buyers with the remaining rope tow serving 10 runs. There is also a four-bedroom, 3,800-square-foot guest house and a building pad for a larger home.
That means all the rails, jumps, and features are gone, but still a private resort on 22 acres just a short 15 minute drive from Park City? Sounds like something Shaun White should look into. . . but he shouldn’t expect the homeowners association to welcome him.
Transworld Media today announced that their trade publication Transworld Business will now officially add coverage of motocross, BMX, and wakeboarding to its editorial mix.

As a result of the added sport coverage, an additional 5,000 BMX, motocross, and wakeboarding retailers will receive free subscriptions to TransWorld Business.
What, no mixed martial arts, rally driving, or NASCAR? Guess those will have to wait until things get really bad.
With all the talk of “union busting” going on as many states attempt to come to terms with their budget crises, the Baltimore Police Department is showing the world just how tough it can be to take action against a police union member, and more importantly, how difficult it is for a police commissioner to reign in a police force that appears to believe that roughing up kids is a good way to interact with the public.
As many will remember Baltimore Police officer Salvatore Rivieri was caught on video back in February of 2008 being an abusive, authoritarian ass to a 14-year-old skateboarder. Thanks to Youtube the officer was suspended. Then, two years later a police board found the officer ‘not guilty on charges of using excessive and unnecessary force and uttering a discourtesy.”
Now, On Monday, February 28, 2011, a judge has reportedly upheld the firing, according to a story in the Baltimore Sun. But apparently this entire issue is not over yet.
The ruling by Judge Sylvester B. Cox sets the stage for an appeal, which lawyers said is likely, promising continued debate over Salvatore Rivieri’s actions and his vitriolic lecture on parenting and youthful indifference that was watched by hundreds of thousands of people on YouTube. . . “The court is not here to second-guess the police commissioner,” Cox ruled after hearing arguments in a courtroom filled with Rivieri’s family and former colleagues on the force. “The commissioner acted well within his discretion. This court is not going to disrupt his position.”
The original video has now been viewed over 5 millions times. Sounds like former officer Rivieri should hang up the badge and get a reality TV show. People obviously enjoy watching him lose it on video.
The event was poised to run on January 20 this year as thousands of spectators joined competitors at Waimea’s hallowed shoreline, but inconsistent 20-foot surf resulted in a “No Go”. That call drew overwhelming support of the event’s uncompromising standards. ‘The Eddie’ was last held in December of 2009. Since its inception in the winter of 1984/85, it has only been held eight times.
Guess 2010-11 was not the winter for big wave contests (The Jay at Mavericks window closed today as well). Next Eddy opening ceremony: December 1, 2011.
. . . ski patrollers and officials with the Northstar Fire Department were alerted of an unconscious snowboarder at 10:38 a.m. Sunday; they found the man lying by a cluster of trees near the Challenger ski trail on the backside of the resort. . . The man was later pronounced dead after being transported via CareFlight to Tahoe Forest Hospital. His name is being withheld by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office until next-of-kin is notified.
The man was reportedly not wearing a helmet. This is the 16th snowboard death in North America since December 20, 2010. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.
[Update March 1, 2011: the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the snowboarder was Jeffrey Halperin, 30, of San Francisco. “According to Paul Schmidt, chief deputy coroner for Nevada County, preliminary indications are that the death resulted either from the impact of hitting a tree or suffocation from landing head-first in the snow bank. Halperin was not wearing a helmet.” Halperin was reportedly a “statistical programmer for a media research firm.
Last night (February 26, 2011) in Portland, Oregon skateboarders and snowboarders gathered at the corner of SE 20th and Hawthorne for the grand opening party of Jen Sherowski and Lance Normine’s new indoor skatepark Commonwealth of Skateboarding, according to a story on Yobeat.com.

Kelly Slater is on fire. Stephanie Gilmore is beginning to fly despite her broken wing, and not surprisingly Mick Fanning is the faster surfer in the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast so far. Oh, and Taj Burrow (pictured above) had the second highest heat total of the day with 16.67. In the Roxy ProTyler Wright took the day’s high score with a 17.96. Go figure.
