She questions him on David Hasselhoff, bikinis, Laird Hamilton, Gabi Reece and more. She was remarkably polite and lady like. And Kelly was smooth as butter as usual, “I could probably kick your ass,” Slater said.

HUF LA Shuts It Down On Fairfax

by The Editors on June 23, 2011

9D3F240Fa78D14A3910C902C3A8Bef37According to an email posted on the N-SB.org site Keith Hufnagel has announced that he has closed the HUF LA store on Sunday, June 19, 2011, with no plans to reopen. Hufnagel said:

We unexpectedly lost our lease recently at our HUF LA shop on Fairfax, and unfortunately closed its doors this past Sunday. We are all bummed about it, and will miss being on the block and all the good times we had at that shop… But change happens and we will keep cruising on and making great stuff.

Those following along will remember that Hufnagel announced the closing of the SF store in early March 2011. It would appears that HUF is getting out of the retail business and putting all their efforts into the HUF brand. Oddly, this seems to be the opposite track of most other brands in the space. Only time will tell.

Krochet Kids X Volcom Fall 2011

by The Editors on June 22, 2011

When people buy a Volcom Krochet Kids beanies this fall they will be helping to support the African village of Gulu, Uganda. Because the people of Gulu crochet the hats, by hand, and then sign them, though a program called Krochet Kids International. And yes, it is better to support the young people of a small African Village than it is to help out a gang of old Chinese communist party oligarchs.

by The Editors on June 22, 2011

Suicide 1Details are coming out surrounding the death of Thrasher Magazine co-founder Eric Swenson on Monday June 20, 2011.

According to the San Francisco Examiner Swenson has been named as the man who committed suicide in front of the Mission Police Station on Monday morning.

A person put a gun to his head and ended his life in front of Mission Police Station as passersby watched in horror Monday morning, police said. . . The victim, identified only as a white male, committed suicide around 8:30 a.m. at the station at 17th and Valencia streets. He used a high-caliber handgun and shot himself right in front of the station’s front doors.

We can only take solace in knowing that Swenson is no longer feeling pain and that skateboarding would not be the same without all his contributions.

Tony Hawk Mustang

At the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction this weekend (June 25, 2011) at the Orange County California Fair Grounds car collectors will get a chance to bid on what is being called a “Tony Hawkized Mustang” created with help from DUB and Galpin Ford, according to a post on Muscular Mustangs.

The winning bidder of the “Hawkized Stang”, as it has been nicknamed, will also get a package which includes a dinner with world renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk, autographed merchandise, tickets to the annual Stand Up For Skateparks event in Las Vegas and a taco party for 50 catered by Wahoo’s Fish Taco’s.
