Watching this Todd Falcon clip (which is promo’d as “the first new Todd Falcon footage in 5 years) reminds us of the stereotypic movements of the Fossa at the San Diego Zoo. Locked in a small cage for far too long the Fossa simply runs through a series of motions over, and over, and over. Kind of like Todd’s primo double flips.
Two questions (from the sea of questions that wash over us while watching this video): Why can’t Mr. Falcon simple roll up into Primo without stepping off every time? And doesn’t stepping off the board and flipping it around kind of negate the whole “34 in a row” claim?

Police have identified a body recovered off Long Island’s Jones Beach as 31-year-old Zachary Gottfried. Gottfried, the owner of the Amityville, New York based Island Riders surf, kite, wake, and SUP shop, went missing on September 8, 2011 while out riding waves generated by Hurricane Katia, according to a story in the Newsday.
Gottfried, 31, an avid surfer and kiteboarder, disappeared off Gilgo State Park last Thursday while surfing in high-surf conditions with another man, who was identified as his business manager, according to a Tuesday news release.
It’s hard to think that the waves the helped create such an amazing Quik Pro New York, could also end a surfer’s life. Our thoughts are with Gottfried’s family and friends.

Our goggle requirements have always been pretty simple: if the lenses keep branches, snow, and ice from hitting us in the eyeballs without fogging and we can see out of them without squinting, we’re stoked. That said, these new Dragon APX winter eye coverings look pretty dope.
Here’s what Dragon says:
. . . the APX goggle has proven to withstand the harshest, most technically demanding conditions. The flagship product of the line, the APX goggle, literally redefines what a goggle can be with our new patent pending Infinity Lens Technology. By completely eliminating the frame profile with this innovative lens system, the APX goggle has maximum peripheral vision and the highest level of performance. LESS IS MORE…APX

Those stylish retro longboarders hit up Malibu, California’s Surfrider Beach on September 9-10, 2011 for the first SoCal stop of the Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational. Not surprisingly, first place went to Alex Knost.
After whittling the initial 16 down to the four finalists, Alex Knost took home $4,000 for first place, Justin Quintal $3,000 for second, Christian Wach $2,000 for third and Harrison Roach pocketed $1,000 for fourth spot. Knost’s win in Malibu follows a first place finish in the Duct Tape Invitational in Santa Cruz earlier this year.

On Saturday, September 10, 2011 “hundreds of longboarders” donned white dress shirts and ties and bombed through the streets of Toronto, Canada, as part of a “board meeting,” according to a story in the Toronto Star.
Pedestrians stopped to take pictures and several drivers honked in support of the event. . . A dozen police officers on bicycles followed the group to “keep the peace and make sure everyone’s safe,” said Staff Sgt. Andy Norrie, adding that skateboarding on roads is “technically illegal.” . . The organizers didn’t apply for a permit or give police any notice. “At this point, we’re not in a position to arrest hundreds of people,” Norrie said. . . Early estimates showed at least 300 skateboarders took part, he said, adding that more came later. Event organizers pegged attendance at 900.
Apparently, event founder Mike McGown and his crew skipped Go Skateboarding Day because it wasn’t Go Longboarding Day. Semantics ruin everything.
