Alaska Tailgate founder Mark Sullivan is happy to announce that he has signed a new title sponsorship agreement with Flow Snowboarding which will come in handy now that there are two events, (Tailgate Alaska and Tailgate BC) on the 2012 schedule.

The Association of Magazine Media (formerly the Magazine Publishers of America) has released their print advertising numbers for the quarter July through September 2011 and that whole recovery thing isn’t looking so strong just now. Total magazine advertising was down 5.6 percent for the quarter. And when we check in with the only action sports magazines to be tracked by the MPA (Transworld Media) we find that four of their six titles were down in ad pages sold. Skateboarding took the biggest hit with a 15.2 percent drop, followed by Ride BMX with a 12.1 percent fall. Not sure there is much to be taken away from this other than to say that the skateboarding and BMX markets continue to feel pressure. It’s easy to slip on gear and head out into the snow knowing you’re going to stay warm and dry, but how often do we think about what goes into manufacturing the gear? Rarely. That’s why it’s cool to see this how they do it in 686’s factory in China. Check it.

We were just thinking about what ever happened to Fuel TV’s CJ Olivares (who left the cable channel April 26, 2011) and what should show up but a little announcement that he’s joined GrindMedia (fomerly ASG) as a television/video advisor.

Can’t really believe anyone still uses the term “television” but Olivares has seen action sports video distribution from pretty much every angle. If this Scotty Vine part doesn’t get you in the mood to ride nothing will.

Coco Ho took down Australian Dimity Stoyle in the finals of the Oakley World Pro Junior Bali today (Monday, October 10, 2011) at Echo Beach, Canggu.
“These are a lot of the girls I compete against the the ASP 6-Star events, and they’re just as good as the girls in the ASP World Title events,” Ho said. “I definitely didn’t think it was going to be an easy event, all these girls were getting 8.00s and 9.00s all event! This is probably my last event of the year and it’s great to go out on a win.”

Surfer Dave Rastovich and his crew of surfers, actors, artists, and musicians is sailing south in the Transparent Sea along the Southern California coast following the migration of the California Grey Whale from Santa Barbara to Baja, Mexico to raise awareness with “an emphasis on engaging key coastal community groups and drawing awareness to the causes they support.”
