Snow Sundancing With Celebrities

by The Editors on January 23, 2012

Sal And ProsDon’t think that action sports aren’t diving headfirst into a celebri-orgy at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah rolling this week. No, no, no. They were out in full force for the the Oakley Learn to Ride Powered by AT&T. This next paragraph pretty much sums up the mood of the entire event:

After drinking a Muscle Milk in the lounge area for some pre-ride protein, Sal Masekela was joined on the slopes by pro snowboarding pals Danny Kass and The Dingo. “Actors have always wanted to be athletes and athletes have always wanted to be actors. There’s a big mutual admiration in society, and Sundance is the perfect place to test that and put it together,” said Masekela. “I see Danny Kass and Lil Jon, and you would think that they grew up in the same hood. That’s how close they’ve gotten through snowboarding.”

And they weren’t alone. Skater Lauren Perkins and surfer Erica Hosseini also got in on the action with a crew of celebrities (some of which we’ve even heard of). Okay, on the count of three everyone keep your celebrity brand rolling for another day: 1, 2, . . . .Which reminds us: where was Todd Richards in all this? Oh, that’s right. He was webcasting from his garage.

Bryan Iguchi’s Back Country Awareness Tour

by The Editors on January 23, 2012

Iguchi AwareTonight, (Monday, Janaury 23, 2012) Bryan Iguchi will be at D&E in Aspen, Colorado for stop two of his A Back Country Awareness Tour. Over the next month The Guch will be visiting eight shops in the west to discuss back country snowboarding and the safety issues that go along with it. As Iguchi says:

To be honest my pursuit of pow hasn’t been all fun and games, I’ve had to endure a lot of harsh situations, extreme cold, frostbite, I’ve been lost overnight in wilderness with no food, water or shelter and have lived my worst nightmare suffering the painful loss of a few friends. . . I’m not trying to scare you but I think it’s important to understand the risks of backcountry riding and how to go about it as safely as possible. The mountains must be treated with respect and I hope to give you some insight of how to be more prepared in the mountains. This tour is set up as a casual “shop talk” designed to bring basic awareness to riders who are new to the backcountry and want to learn how to do it safely.”

Knowledge is power. The tour rolls through Colorado, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. Check in with Iguchi if you have the chance. Click the image above for all the details.

Manifest: Aaron Robinson’s Film Lives

by The Editors on January 23, 2012

When Aaron Robinson died in a fall through some rocks near El Colorado, Chile last summer, his friends had a difficult time even thinking about completing the snowboarding film they were working on. Sam Tuor explains:

. . . it was hard to even think about the movie, let alone sit down and edit hours of his footage from the winter. It wasn’t until Blake Paul sent me an email highlighting the fact that one of Aaron’s goals all season was to get everyone down to Chile and film a segment for the movie that I came to realize something that should have been so obvious. We had to head South and finish what he had started. Although we were physically missing the one person who really should have been on that trip I feel like he was actually with us more than ever. We’ll miss you A-ROB!

Manifest is the completion of the project and it’s well worth a watch.
