The Scorchingest, Sauciest Girls Of Pro Surfing

by The Editors on November 30, 2012

Transworld Surf’s Justin Cote drops in with a page view a-bomb with The Hottest Girls In Pro Surfing 2012 Edition. Yes, it’s just the sexist “girls that give us boners” kind of photo feature that you’d expect, but then again, apparently, being sexy is what drives the entire world. As a bonus, all 20 of them will kick your ass on the waves, so there’s that.

The list begins at 20th place with Courtney Conlogue and finishes right where you’d expect.

Zumiez Stock Takes A Dip

by The Editors on November 30, 2012

Zumiez-NotaglineAfter announcing that it’s back-to-school sales were softer in the third quarter Zumiez shares fell in after-hours trading by seven percent on Thursday evening November 29, 2012, according to a story on Bloomberg Businessweek.

Zumiez reported net income of $12.7 million, or 40 cents per share, for the period that ended Oct. 29. This is down from $14.1 million, or 45 cents per share, in the third quarter of the prior year. The most recent quarter included 10 cents per share in costs tied to its acquisition of Blue Tomato and 1 cent per share of costs tied with its relocation of its corporate offices to Lynnwood, Wash.

The company blamed a drop in November sales on Superstorm Sandy. Why not? Zumiez stock bounced a little this morning and honestly, minor dips of this size are barely worth mentioning. But we already typed it in this far (and you’re reading it) so whateves.

Shaun Big White Gifty Christmas

by The Editors on November 29, 2012

Each year, apparently, Shaun White takes a chance to remember the birth of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by handing out products from all of his sponsors in a marketing promotion called White Christmas. The festivities begin on December 3, 2012 on Facebook.com/ShaunWhite and continue for 8 days. Not sure we’re going to make it to “the Facebook,” but we’re sure millions will. Day two is free gum for goodness sake. . .

Pat Bridges Speaks To Colin Whyte

by The Editors on November 29, 2012

As Snb Bridges2 400It’s a conversation that Snowboarder Magazine Editor Pat Bridges and journalist Colin Whyte have probably had hundreds of times over beer in some freezing ass mountain town dive, but now it’s for ESPN.com/Action and Whyte is getting paid. Don’t let that stop you from reading Bridges Tastemaker interview which includes nuggets like this:

As cliché as it is to say, I think we as snowboarders need to have more influence — and by “snowboarders” I don’t mean people who ride less than 10 days a year. Rather than calling out any specific groups, I will generalize by saying anyone who rides less than 10 days a year should have less say. . . This includes any agents who are out of touch, skiers, shop buyers, team managers, park managers, etc. … I could keep going for a while with that list.

It’s nice to see the business realities of corporate snowboard media haven’t clouded Bridges’ opinions all that much. Bottom line: the man is a snowboarding treasure.

Rolling Santa Monica With Jay Adams

by The Editors on November 29, 2012

We won’t even mention how often, as kids, we dreamed of skating around Santa Monica with Jay Adams. Now, through the magic of video we all get to do just that with a slightly, older, wiser Jay on his Z-Flex P.O.P. board.

Rob Dyrdek Loses $334k On House

by The Editors on November 29, 2012

73491541Rob Dyrdek has reportedly sold his home in the Hollywood Hills for $2.125 million according to a story in the LA Times.

Built in 2005 and designed for entertaining, the home features a two-story entry, an open floor plan, 20-foot ceilings, five bedrooms and five bathrooms in 4,706 square feet of living space. There is a swimming pool, a patio and a lawn.

The only bummer is that he bought the house in 2008 for $2.459. Guess considering “these economic times” that’s not all that bad a deal, really.

Westerly Windina Story On Kickstarter

by The Editors on November 28, 2012

We’ve mentioned Westerly Windina a.k.a. Peter Drouyn before (twice, actually). He’s the former Australian surfing hero who in 2008 announced that he would live as a woman rolling forward. Now, Santa Monica, California based filmmakers at Westward Productions are hoping to make a documentary about the man and the woman he became in a film titled: Westerly: A Man, A Woman, An Enigma. Not surprisingly, they’re asking for your help on Kickstarter. Here’s what they’re pitching:

In 2008, Peter Drouyn announced on Australian national television that he was living as a woman. His new name, she said, was Westerly Windina. The surf community—and Australia in general—was astonished and mostly repulsed. Since then, Westerly has been living in public housing on Australia’s Gold Coast. Her life is not easy. She is alone, poor, and often taunted by her neighbors. . . We will explore Westerly’s past as a man, document her upcoming gender-reassignment operation in Thailand, and follow her post-up as she acclimates to the newest chapter of her enigmatic journey.

Westward Productions is hoping to raise $50,000 for the project, however, with only 18 days to go they’ve only raised $6,298. If you’d like to see this film completed, click here to back the project.
