by The Editors on December 7, 2012

Park City-1The Sprint US Grand Prix Snowboarding event scheduled for December 21-22, 2012 at Park City Mountain Resort has been rescheduled for February 1-2, 2013 thanks to some trouble getting a quality superpipe completed in time (see photo at right).

“Park City Mountain Resort is known for having the best half pipe in the world,” said Krista Parry, Marketing Director, Park City Mountain Resort. “We are more confident we will provide the athletes the type of half pipe they’ve come to expect from us by moving the event to a later date.

Slater Makes It #1 Surfer Number 18

by The Editors on December 7, 2012

Winners Ellis

There weren’t a whole lot of surprises at last night’s (December 7, 2012) Surfer Poll Awards at the Turtle Bay Resort, on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Kelly Slater won his 18th number 1 surfer award and Stephanie Gilmore took home her third. Kai Neville’s Dear Suburbia won for best surf film.

Slater, in spite of winning every year grows more gracious with each award.

“Obviously I’m stoked, it’s been a long time with a lot of support from a lot of people,” said Slater. “It’s definitely nice to be recognized by the surfing community and to come out at the top position. I’m surprised John John didn’t get first. I also thought Dane was going to get it this year—maybe next year. I think they split each other’s votes. They stole the election from each other.”

Congrats, to the winners. One thing: they girls rocked the fashion and the guys, well, lets just say a stripped T-shirts and baggy backpack just doesn’t do it for an event as big as The Surfer Poll Awards.

The Snow Market’s Down Fall

by The Editors on December 6, 2012

Sia Falldown

The SnowSports Industry of America released their fall SIA RetailTRAK numbers today (December 6, 2012) for the period August through October 2012 and it wasn’t good news.

The snow sports market declined 2%, but reached $616M in sales so far this season (August through October) despite significant disruptions in retail sales in the South and Northeast regions due to Hurricane Sandy, uncertainty in the face of the “fiscal cliff,” and lack of momentum from the snow-challenged 2011/2012 season.

And you thought last fall was bad for sales? We’ll just pray for a good Christmas. For the official word from SIA, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Stevie Williams + Lil’ Wayne = Supra S1W

by The Editors on December 6, 2012

Stevie Lilwayne

Not that Stevie Williams needed help with his Supra color ways, but this time he got a little from Lil’ Wayne.

“I asked Wayne if he wanted to do a color way with my shoe,” Stevie said, “and he said he was up for it. Just supporting Wayne skateboarding, and having his name on my shoe, it just shows how big this skateboarding thing is. I’m excited about it.”

It would appear that Lil’ Wayne’s color is red. Click here to buy ($105.00) or follow the jump for the official details. [click to continue…]
