Northern Idaho’s Silver Mountain Resort in the mining town of Kellogg is for sale in an online auction on AmeriBid and everything must go, according to a story in the Spokesman Review.

The Silver Mountain Resort auction includes an indoor waterpark, a property management contract for more than 270 condo units, another 14 commercial units, the 1,600-acre ski resort and its Morning Star Lodge, the nine-hole Galena Ridge golf course plus a restaurant and other development property. The currently owner, window and door maker Jeld-Wen has decided to get out of the resort business to “focus on its core business.” The online auction runs until March 19, 2013 and any of the pieces are available for purchase. We’re currently checking out that waterpark.

Guerrero To Receive TWS Legend Award

by The Editors on February 26, 2013

Tommyguerrero Tws13Legend

Transworld Skateboarding has named Bones Brigade legend Tommy Guerrero the winner of the 2013 Legend Award and will bestow it on him during the 15th Annual Transworld Skateboarding Awards in Hollywood, California tomorrow night (Wednesday, February 27, 2013).

As a top shelf member of the Bones Brigade during the height of the ’80s boom, Tommy basically became the face of “streetstyle” at a time when that very concept was about to turn skateboarding on its head. Born and raised in San Francisco, Tommy put the city’s now infamous hills and unique terrain on the map for skateboarding. His part in Powell Peralta’s 1985 video Future Primitive was not only revolutionary, but hugely influential to the sport of skateboarding. As the first official “street pro” in skateboarding, Tommy’s free-flowing improvisational style and creative use of the San Francisco concrete, set the stage for modern street skating.

Big Bear War Of Rails? Seriously?

by The Editors on February 25, 2013

331

We don’t usually care about ski events, because, you know, it’s skiing. But this Under Armour War of Rails event at Bear Bear Mountain Resorts promo graphic kind of blew our minds.

It’s been less than a month since the Big Bear resorts were shut down as armed SWAT teams went door to door through Big Bear searching for rogue LA police officer and suspected murderer Christopher Jordan Dorner. It’s been a little over two weeks since Dorner died from a reportedly self-inflicted gunshot wound while the Big Bear cabin he was hiding in burned to the ground after an “accidental” fire set by law enforcement. And yet, none of this stopped Under Armour from rolling dead ahead with their guns, tanks, and ammo themed ski rail contest? Seriously?

Quiksilver Corp Cuts To The Core

by The Editors on February 25, 2013

Quik Logo10In the race for corporate “efficiencies” Quiksilver is making some pretty big changes.

In addition to COO and Global Brand President Craig Stevenson resigning (he’ll be paid through October 31, 2013), the company is apparently cutting the snowboarding team (but keeping Travis Rice) and cutting the skateboarding team (but keeping Tony Hawk). The Quiksilver surf team has also been reportedly trimmed by several surfers. There are also rumors that Quiksilver Women, the Waterman Collection, the VSTR brand and Dane Reynolds side project Summer Teeth were also set aside.

Over at DC Shoes they’ve cut their entire BMX team and their surf team. There is also mention of auto (and co-founder Ken Block himself) being cut as well. As one surf industry stalwart ironically put it, “Can’t wait until the same thing happens at Billabong.”

One thing to remember: Hollister doesn’t spend a dime on “core teams” and they don’t seem to be having any problem in the “So Cal inspired clothing for Dudes and Bettys” space. Still no official word from Quik, but then again, their information distribution department never has been very effective. We’ll let you know if and when anyone shares any information on what is obviously a very bad day for action sports athletes, media, and the industry in general.

[Editors Note: The details in this post have been in flux all day thanks to various sources adding and subtracting details. So far, no replies to emails sent to Quiksilver corporate PR and other contacts.]

Jeremy Jones In The New York Times

by The Editors on February 25, 2013

Dog-Snowboard-2-PopupIt is good to see great snowboarders like Jeremy Jones getting proper respect in mainstream media outlets like the New York Times.

At a local restaurant here in his hometown, Jones does not look like one of the world’s most radical snowboarders. A 38-year-old father of two, he is soft-spoken and friendly, an outlier in a sport known more for brazenness than modesty. But for more than two decades, as snowboarders have started trends and realized Olympic ambitions, Jones has pursued a singular dream: riding some of the biggest, significant mountains in the world.

Jones has always been an genuine, authentic, unassuming giant in snowboarding, and we’re stoked people outside snowboarding are getting to know him better. Click the link for the rest of the story.
