Nikita Clothing and Bonfire Snowboarding have a new brand manager and her name is Vicki Vasil. Vicki was most recently a brand marketing manager at Sage Island, a digital agency based in Wilmington, North Carolina, though most will know her from time at Surf Expo.
“Vicki will be a passionate, integral member of our team,” says Frank Aeschbacher, VP of Nikita and Bonfire. “Her breadth of experience and relationships in the industry provide her with a true 360-degree perspective that will be important to brand growth and evolution.”

If you go to one skate art opening this year, it should probably be the opening for Russ Pope & Neil Blender’s Baggage Claim at Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow in Laguna Beach, California on Saturday, April 5, 2014.
“Baggage Claim” explores social concepts in the two artists’ complementary character-based themes and color palettes – which Pope says will come across as “darker” to those familiar with his work. Works will range from 30″ x 60″ to a handful of smaller pieces. Pope and Blender conceived “Baggage Claim” together. Pope explains: “It’s claiming your baggage, claiming all your life’s baggage. Usually the content of the things I’m working on are social commentary, things that happen in my life, like daily diaries, or what’s happening in my environment that I’m reporting on. Making art and sharing it with people it is exposing yourself and putting yourself in a vulnerable position – politics, thoughts, even colors. Laying baggage out for all to see.”
Aside from being the father of the Lien air, Neil Blender is also credited with creating the entire skateboarder-as-artist aesthetic. Baggage Claim runs April 5 – 27, 2014. Truthfully, all we know about the 2014 Arctic Challenge is that Danny Davis won and that other famous Olympic guy didn’t. But as soon as we post this, we’re going to watch it and then we’ll know more. Just like you will.

John Wolfson, a 27-year-old bodyboarder from Manly, Australia, (pictured above) got barred from the lineup at Bawley Point, New South Wales on Monday, March 16, 2014 when a bottle nose dolphin speared him in the left side as Wolfson was paddling out, according to a story in the Daily Telegraph.
Wolfson made it to shore but had to wait almost an hour in severe pain to be evacuated due to the spot’s remote location and the fact a 4WD ambulance got bogged in the sand. . . Witness and surf photographer Jason Corroto said the force of the collision shredded his mate’s wet tie. . . “He looked like he was wearing a rag,” he said. “He could not move at all. He thought he had broken his ribs.” . . While his ribs turned out not to be broken, he was expected to remain at St George Hospital overnight.
Must have been an accident, right?

We’ve all shot terrible, jittery video. In fact, most of us do it all the time. Finding a solid, inexpensive rig to smooth things out, however is nearly impossible. Thanks for a full three-axis-stabilization, LUUV separates the motion of your hand from the camera. You hand is moving, but the camera is not. The outcome: flowing, steady footage instead of shaky videos.

Herschel Supply Company is pleased to announce that Jon Warren as their new Design Director. Warren spent his last 12 years at Vans where he was most recently the head of Design Lifestyle for the company.

Austin P. White, a 22 year-old snowboarder died Sunday, March 16, 2014 after hitting a tree at the Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York, according to a story in the Press Republican.
White. . . was boarding with his sister and some friends on the Excelsior trail, State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman said on Monday morning. . . He passed them, she said, then they came upon him moments later, just after he’d skidded off the trail and struck the tree a short distance into the woods, near the junction with Lower Northway trail.
According to the Associated Press, White was a student at State University of New York College at Brockport where he was a senior studying excise science. He was scheduled to graduate in May. White reportedly suffered a “severe head injury,” and was not wearing a helmet. Our thoughts are with White’s family and friends.
