Raen kicks down a little classic heavy-frame style with their new Archar.
. . . a tip of the hat to the squared off old-schoo of Raen styles past with a modern updated appear. Details inlude a knocked out bridge and metal appliqué above the brown and on the temple. The archer offers an option for the new Stout or Ripple acetate.
And yes, they look good $135 dollars (and free shipping). Click the link to snatch some up.

Robbie Brockel, Davis Torgerson and Jack Olson serve up some good, old fashioned Wrecking Crew action in the ditches of the great American Southwest. Kinda makes you wanna hit the road to flash flood country, doesn’t it?

The launch of the new Vans.com site has even Steve Van Doren looking a little confused. Luckily, Vans President Kevin Bailey has a good handle on it:
“It was imperative going into the new site development that we merge Vans storytelling and brand content while showcasing all of our product categories in the most comprehensive way for our consumers,” Bailey said. “The new Vans.com allows consumers to engage with our brand, find the product they want and from there, locate a store, buy online or purchase however they choose.”

We’ve been posting stories of sharks nipping surfers at Florida’s New Smyrna Beach for years and here’s an up-close example of just why it happens and how much the local surfers don’t care. . .

Sally Fitzgibbons charged her way to the top in the Fiji Women’s Pro against five-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore at Cloudbreak.
“I guess wins come in waves for me! To win in beachbreaks in Rio last week and then in reefbreaks in Fiji this week is a huge boost to my confidence,” said Sally Fitzgibbons. “I knew that I’ve been surfing well this year and I just needed things to fall my way before the wins started coming. Carissa (Moore) had a huge start to this season, but the year’s a long way from being finished. I’m looking forward to the US Open.”

It appears that North Shore surfers will have a new neighbor at Rocky Point soon as the Honolulu Star is reporting that GoPro founder Nick Woodman just spent close to $9 million of the company’s pre-going-public dollars for a 66-year-old house and a 31,000 square foot vacant lot on Ke Nui Road, according to a story on BizJournals.
The newspaper reports the buyer’s agent, Lora “Bitsy” Healey, whose son is big-wave surfer Mark Healey, declined to reveal her client’s identity.
This purchase is reportedly the most someone has paid for a vacant lot on the North Shore. That’s not a bad way to flow some money into the local community.

During a break in the 2014 Drug Aware Margaret River Pro Smith Optic surfers CJ Hobgood and Yadin Nicol took some time to make some good days great. And it worked pretty well, apparently.

Here’s a normal clip of an average old guy throwing down ten tricks on the mini at Camp Woodward. What is special about this edit (aside from the blunts) is that the skater, Bret Anthony Johnston, is the director of creative writing at Harvard and his debut novel (Remember Me Like This) just dropped on May 13, 2014.
Now, watch that edit again. Yep, Johnston may be the best literary fiction writing skateboard professor in the world. If that isn’t enough reason for you to check out his book, then here’s a review from the Washington Post. Oh, and both John Irving and Tom Perrotta liked Remember Me Like This as well. If you know them, then you know.

We’ve been trying to figure out why we like Madars Apse’s web series It’s A Mad World, and all we can come up with is that it’s fun to see America through the eyes of someone from Eurolandia. Seriously. In this episode (we don’t know the number) Madars heads to the American Southwest and enjoys some of the most spectacular views the world has on offer. ..oh, and there’s some skating, too.

It’s been pretty rough all week for the ASP women at stop number five on the Samsung Galaxy ASP World World Championship Tour. The surf at Tavarua has been blown, choppy, bumpy, and throwing at Cloudbreak. Yesterday, the women surfed Round 3 and two hearts of Round 4 at Restaurants. It was the first time in ASP history that women have surfed this shallow, sharp, reef pass, and surprise, Laura Enever ended up with the days highest score, even thought Stephanie Gilmore and Dimity Stoyle gave her a run.
“I think it’s so new for us to be surfing here in Fiji. That was my first surf at Restaurants and I thought, I just need to catch a wave and see what happens on it,” said Laura Enever. “I can’t believe that just happened but I’m so stoked. I think everyone is having the best time here. It’s windy out there but it’s fine and I’m so stoked that I got two fun ones.”
Props to the women. For the official word from the ASP, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
