Michael Jager And The Business Of Weed

by The Editors on April 17, 2015

JagerMichael Jager (pictured right) the creative design mind behind Burton Snowboards, and the legendary design firm JDK is now turning his considerable marketing muscle toward the business of legal weed in the State of Vermont.

He and five other CEO’s have have created the Vermont Cannabis Collaborative, according to story on Seven Days VT. What is this collaboration intending to do?

A dream team of six seasoned CEOs — almost all of them old enough to join AARP — is trying to figure out how their alternative business philosophy could be applied to commercial cannabis. Vermont lawmakers appear poised to legalize recreational use as soon as next year, in which case there will be plenty of money to be made. The RAND Corporation estimated earlier this year that Vermonters bought between $125 million and $225 million in marijuana on the black market in 2014.

That’s right. They’re hoping to cash in on Vermont’s newest legalized vice. But, you know, do it the “Vermont way.” Which reminds us: pot smokers always have made us laugh.

by The Editors on April 17, 2015

Yobeat put this up three days ago, but we just can’t stop watching those carves. And yeah, we have a couple Burton Factory Primes rusting away in the garage, but as Neil Young once said, “Rust never sleeps.”

Kelly Slater To Surf Oakley Lowers Pro

by The Editors on April 17, 2015

Slater-Ellis1

From April 28 – May 2, 2015 The Oakley Lowers Pro will post up at California’s Trestles and bring with them some of the best surfers in the world (even though it’s not a major content production event) thanks to six wildcard positions. One of them will be Kelly Slater.

“Lowers is a special wave and it’s been a pivotal place for me in my career,” said Kelly Slater, 11-time World Champion. “The wave is a great canvas for experimentation, in both equipment and approach, and I’m looking forward to surfing it with just a couple of guys out at the Oakley Lowers Pro. Hope we get some swell for it.”

It also means a little more star power for a privately owned entertainment company specializing in event and online streaming content production. The other five wildcard surfers include Nate Yeomans, Kanoa Igarashi, Jack Robinson, Parker Coffin, and Evan Geiselman. Not a bad way to get to see all these guys surf. A Love Like Jerry Hsu’s Is Hard To Find

by The Editors on April 14, 2015

Tumblr Nmgoq0Yfu81Sxeezjo6 500

We’ve all still got a couple weeks to check out Jerry Hsu’s photography show A Love Like Mine is Hard to Find at LA’s Slow Culture Gallery.

A Love Like Mine is Hard to Find says a lot about the way Jerry Hsu approaches his photography. Without a doubt, this is a passion thing. His process, like the title indicates, is tied to dis-covery and patience and it borders on compulsion. It would appear that Hsu has honed the skills of seeing and identifying what is “photo-worthy,” because he has created his own vernacular and effectively mastered his vision. Hsu’s need to capture the absurd but beautiful, everyday world around him has certainly paid off. . . Like learning a language, a photographer’s work relies heavily on practice and immersion. Sensitivity to events that seem like non-events adjusts one’s perspective by shifting the focus to things often missed. Hsu honors those moments outside of the frame; he looks when one is “not supposed to look” and he photographs them. (Lucky for us, he likes to share.)

The show runs through May 2, 2015. Slow Culture Gallery is located at 5906 North Figueroa St. in Los Angeles, California. Follow the jump for more photos from the show. [click to continue…]

Quelle tristesse… Repose en paix marmaille 🙁

According to reports Canestri was surfing in an “off-limits” area that had been closed after a non-fatal shark attack in February. Our thoughts are with Canestri’s parents, family, friends and the entire Reunion Island surfing community.
