Torx Trux have a “captive nut” built-in so assembly is a one hand operation. Not really sure why no one has done this before. We kind of wish our Indys had this baseplate feature.

Interesting concept. The big benefit is no socket or wrench required. The drawback that I see, is that you’ll have to hold that nut in the little nut cave with your thumb as you thread the bolt through. (additionally – threading a nut onto a bolt is a lot easier than threading a bolt onto a nut, esp if either is stripped or being feisty)
If you work at a skate shop or put lots of completes together, this could possibly take a lot longer than using your standard tool set. Always good to see new ideas, something to try.
if you tighten from the allen key side, you’d have twisted, bubbled up, shitty looking grip. that is why EVERY skater uses the allen key to hold the bolt steady while you use the wrench to tighten the bolts. it seems obvious this “inventor” has never set up a board before. please go skate before you “create”.
Not really a new idea. I have seen the same concept on kmart boards. The problem is on some the nut eventually gets stuck in there by idiots who apply too much torque.
Fury Trucks had this feature on at least one model in the late 90s.
The real drawback is that the only way to hold the nut in this manner is by adding material to the baseplate in the area around the nut. This additional material translates to additional weight.
I think in reality this miniscule amount of additional weight is barely noticeable but people will always look for a reason to bitch (point in case above).
I think it’s a cool idea.
Cory, sometimes you have to give a little to get a little. Your grip tape not being aesthetically perfect is not performance sacrifice in any way. And if you are cautious I’m sure you can have acceptably nice looking grip tape while screwing from the top.
Hi,
Tork Trux guy here. Just wanted to give a little more info here based on the comments.
andrew – no holding the nut in the cave. That is why we use a flange nut and side load it into a notch. Watch the video again and look even closer. Hands free all the way. So easy! We do see skate shops eating this up because of this. That and the allen tool having an extra bend makes it work like a crank and that also helps speed up the process. I can take off a truck with the one tool in under a minute. Putting them on takes a little longer as expected, but hey….it still rocks!
Mike V liked it so much that he joined the team as our first pro. He did not mention anything about the grip tape being a problem for him. itsallovernow nailed it, the grip tape doesn’t get effected enough to matter. We are looking at a way to resolve this next year.
We haven’t had any nuts get stuck in to the wrench area with this latest mold. The good thing about this is that ours is open from the side and you can always get the nut out. Our trux will be coming with the hardware and the tool to make it that much nicer. That’s $3 or $4 bucks we will be saving you!
