Things Not So OK At OK Skate

by The Editors on June 17, 2010

Ok Skate[This post was updated at 4:03 PM, June 18, 2010] We got an email on June 17, 2010 announcing that “due to some unforeseen circumstances” Joey Coleman, Joe Quattrocchi, Jamie Gonzalez, Nick Wisda, and Shane Wallace are “no longer with OK Skate.” All we can say is “Damn, that was fast.”

Shane Wallace has now confirmed that OK Skate is open for business, that he is no longer involved, and that he has “been advised to only release very limited information.”

Other sources report that part of the management team wanted to “do things right this time” and apparently their idea of “the right thing” differed from that of the people who control the OK Skate brand.

OK Skate’s new CEO Rick Schwartz says that some changes have been made:.

“We have made some changes and unfortunately some members of our team are no longer with OK Skate,” he said in an email. “Also, we have closed our retail store. However, the OK Skate web site www.okskate.com is operational and we intend to make it bigger and better than before. The company will be focused on being a web only business. . . . Like any new company that is still in “start up mode” we are still working on refining our business. We intend to keep serving our customers so we can provide them with a great selection of products.”

Growing pains, huh?

just what we need…another phantom business selling shit on the web.

The industry needs to just say no.

who cares, its just skateboarding, and a bunch of dudes with egos who could not get along

I heard that the main dude wanted to put everything on sale like Ross and fire all the skaters who built the business for him. Shane said NO and then got his ass kicked out for trying to be the hero. Business 101, the money wins everytime.

By the way, if Shane standing up for what is right got him a 1 way ticket out of wackness, I have to say he did took one for keeping skate legit.Big ups to Shane if that’s the truth.

Haha, Shane “trying to be a hero” and “keeping skate legit.” You are either Shane himself, or a goddamn moron.

Anyone who partners with the founder of Ross to create a skate company does not have any concern for “keeping skate legit.” He wanted to ride the corporate bull into skateboarding, but he got the corporate horn. End of story.

You can to make him out to be a martyr for skateboarding, but nobody in this industry has any sympathy after Active’s collapse. I guarantee this has everything to do with under-performance and nothing to do with principles.

I agree,
history tells us shane is in it for the money only. As far as ross goes, that guy is getting his but kicked at krv, I guess he isn’t so great at retail

I think all the anger comes from the fact that the Wallace group(both Shane and his father) have never apologized for the lives they ruined with their unscrupulous business practices. They used the industry to finance their expansion when they new full well they were operating in the negative. They were playing roulette with peoples lives and livelihood and all we ever hear is, “well it was a perfect storm that did us in.” TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!!!!! How about, “we tried to push Active beyond our means and in doing so we ruined peoples lives and for that we can’t apologize enough.” Your family lost a business it had for 20 years, but your still living in your mansion in the hills, driving your G wagon, and people you screwed over lost their careers, their homes, their families, because of how you guys acted. Sure the economy took a dive, but PLENTY of retailers in this industry survived without causing the harm you guys did.
