Aussie Croats Call For Billabong Boycott

by The Editors on December 3, 2009

BillacroatA graphic from Billabong’s “comrade” T-shirt series is stirring up some trouble with a group of Australian Croats, according to a story on Javno.com.

The front of the disputed T-shirt contains emblem that combines the five-pointed star with what remarkably resembles the Croatian coat of arms. . . Behind the five-pointed star is a grain wreath that resembles the iconography which, in Croatia, is commonly associated with the communist Yugoslavia. Behind a checkered coat of arms is an eagle wing, which after a brief observation, may be correlated with the eagle on the Serbian coat of arms.

SerbcroatNatalie Drazic a spokeswoman for the Sydney’s Croatian Youth organization reportedly contacted Billabong but was not happy with the response she got from the company. “Natalie Drazic and the SCY management urged all Croats to boycott products made by the Billabong Company until further notice.”

A little controversy never seems to hurt T-shirt sales.

Go figure some lady is bitching about something so stupid. Her kids are probably out robbing someone, while she spends her time trying to lead a Billabong boycott. Just let it go.

To CHUCKnorris… you’re the type of racist that makes me sick. You obviously have no idea what it means to live in a multicultural Australia because you’re too busy smoking dope, drinking beer, skating your board, catching a way all on dole money. That assumption doesn’t sound fair does it? But you get what you give.

I skate and surf myself but I am at least smart enough to take an interest in world events. The lady has a fair point. Lot of Croatian and other people from former communist countries lost a lot of loved ones at the hands of communist oppression and they came here hoping to live a free and democratic life. But it seems they also have to live with bigots and racists who like yourself.

Cool Shirt, I like it… Only problem is it’s SOLD OUT everywhere… Does anyone know where I can get one? Doesn’t look like that boycott is doing anything for sales..

In my personal opinion. This t shirt wouldnt shock the people of “croatia” living in their own homeland. They have forgiven one and all. There are serbs living with croatians in the same apartment block.

Why is there such an uproar here in Australia? Why are Australians boycotting? Get over it and concentrate on bigger issues.

this has offended thousands of people throughout australia and nobody seems to care so much for australia being a non racist country. but if i made a top with half a star of david (jewish star) and half a swastika im 100% sure it would get removed off the shelves immediately and a national apology would go out to all the people offended!
