Yep, the locals in Seaside, Oregon are still there. They’re still hard and tough. And they still don’t want anyone else to surf their frozen cold waves. They’ll get no grief from us. But that’s not the case with the local KGW.com news crew.
When KGW photographers and a reporter arrived to the Cove of Seaside, two surfers warned them not to take their cameras out to the Point and take pictures. . . They encountered several surfers –some polite, others irate. . . One surfer stood in front of the photographer’s camera and blocked the lens with his hands. . . “We don’t like cameras taking pictures here,” the man said.
We wouldn’t want thousands of people flocking in for ice-cream headaches either.

Ahhh Methlehem
Hahaha! They should have waxed the camera lens.
This is news?
Oregon… that pretty much sums it up in a word right there.
”…your interfering with my lively hood…” what a double-chinned pussy.
So, on my next trip down the coast making photographs I will stop here.
If I get assaulted I will shoot a surfer in self defense…. with a smith and wesson not a camera…
then perhaps they will back off…
screw ’em I say….
Lame. These guys are really dumb. The fact is that wetsuit technology is getting so good these days that most people are just now realizing that ice cream headaches are a thing of the past. this spot and many like them are getting crowded because the cold water is not really an issue these days…LOL. these idiots just challenged everyone to go check out how good the place is…and now even the cops are on alert, they just ruined themselves. I go to portland all the time and have been to the point on a few occasions but it was either blown out or recovering from being blown out. I am telling everyone to go there. I know it gets good, now im going out of my way to surf there!
See you guys in the water…Ill be the one dropping in deep!…without the standard Oregon stink-bug stance!
Those locals are a bunch of punks .Its a Fucking public Beach !!!!!!
Seriously, they are. I lived there for 2 years, dating a surfer who surfed the point religiously. The locals are in their late 20’st to early 30’s and act like they’re 16 years old. They will fight you if you don’t come with a larger group. They run in packs. Only a couple of them are truly strong, the others need their friends back up. Like a pack of wolves, they all jump in! So come prepared, bring your friends and as someone else warned, don’t park in the surfers parking lot. That is the smaller lot closest to the point. They will wax your wind shields or break out your windows. But definitely go to the point. That is by far the most epic wave around. I’ve lived all over the coast of California too and the point is like no other! Don’t let this group of tools chase you off. You may notice also that quite a number of them act like they’re on something. They are… they like to smoke crack in Seaside. It’s an interesting group of people. Also don’t try to shag with any of the girls there. This town is infested with warts and herpes!! As I said, I lived there and know a lot of people. Learned WAY TOO much there. Surf the point. This spot is not very populated. It’s just the locals that go there. Only a few kooks actually don’t get messed with so give it a shot… but go prepared 🙂
Surfed here last year 2009 alone…Not the best waves I’ve ever surfed (almost!)…but absololutely the most perfect. A freight train almond shape barrel the whole way. It can be barreling for days before you even try to drop in, better get in before that barrel catches you though; Sneaks up on you quick like a monster. Super long rides!….from a far the barrel reels so perfect down the point it looks like it’s standing still like a flowrider. Surfed it three days in a row…from small to as big as it gets…maxes out at 15′ faces b/c an outside reef starts to wake up on bigger sets and slows things down…lots of water moving in the line up with equally thick barrels. Very very sketchy go out at the most surfed peak( 1st. reef (the middle peak))4 foot diameter boulders…no room for error. Got vibed, a little chatter here and there…basically I had no problems (I’m kinda of a big dude though and will brawl at will, so I don’t sweat much)…actually…it was a bit lonely and scary once the swell started to fill in. One guy out at the farthest peak out and me at the second peak and about 10 guys surfing the inside at about three feet high.
I can see how the locals would dominate that “surfers” parking lot…best to park far away and walk in. Be respectful, know how to surf well, and don’t show up with all your friends and you’ll be fine. This place has such a reputation that almost every Oregon surfer I mentioned it to had never been and was too scared to go. By the way…The main point has million dollar houses on it and it is a public beach. Coldwater classic is dying to tap this place wide open…it’s coming…eventually…in the name of money someone will sell it out. Think maybe this is the reason Gerry Lopez moved to Bend? I think so!
Aloha
Surf it last week for 3 days straight. Head high to a couple of feet over with clean S/E winds. Really a good wave and the only comments I got were from Grumpy and Dave. The key is respect and you will get plenty of cold water lefts at the point. I found the only hard part is getting in and out through the boulders. Reminds me of a secret spot in Kauai only colder. I will be back at Xmas. Say hello to Leo…Aloha
