Former Transworld Media employee Monica Campana is back at T-Dub as the Publisher of Transworld Skateboarding after leaving a similar position nearly six years ago.
“Rejoining TransWorld SKATEboarding at its 30-year anniversary is both sublime and surreal,” comments Monica. “It is with incredible excitement that I return to a title which is dedicated to excellence and progressivism within the skateboarding community. The pioneering and creative culture associated with TWSKATE’s brand is a well reputed and trusted one. I am honored to be a part of this insanely talented team.”

Bonnier Corporation has reportedly partnered with the Ultimate Fighting Championships to produce its UFC Magazine. Transworld will be responsible for the sales and distribution of the magazine and Group Publisher Liam Ferguson couldn’t be happier about it.
“From my first introduction to Dana White and the UFC over two years ago, I was impressed by his passion for their sport and his company’s media prowess,” said TransWorld Media Group Publisher Liam Ferguson. “This partnership will leverage the strengths of our respective organizations to better serve our shared target demographic of young male enthusiasts, aged 16-34. I’m flattered that the UFC has chosen TransWorld, and our parent company Bonnier, as their partner to grow their print and digital magazine subscribers globally.”
With their core product revenue continuing to fall, it was only a matter of time before Bonnier found a way to bring more dollars into their Transworld Media business. It would appear that Transworld Media’s Bonnier ass kicking is going to continue for a while. Follow the jump for the official word from Bonnier. [click to continue…]

Last night (Tuesday, October 25, 2011) skateboarding filters, editors, and stars gathered at Hollywood, California’s Music Box for the “invite only” International Skateboarding Film Festival Awards presentations. Festival founder Fabrice Le Mao, (pictured right) welcomed everyone to the awards and then they went down a little like this:
Kelly Slater appeared on the somnambulant CBS Sunday Morning news show on October 23, 2011. The six minute clip has all the now-cliche comparisons to Tiger Wood and Michael Jordan.
“He’s won so many times not even he can believe it,” the host says. And Slater replies: “It’s almost like it happened to someone else. I sort of hear it and it’s baffling to me.”
The interesting part is the piece is a sneak peek into the Kelly Slater Wave Company where Kelly is lending his name to another quixotic search for the perfect fake wave. Watch the clip to see.
Spike Jonze continues to do amazingly cool films at every turn. Here is his latest directorial work, a collab with handbag designer Olympia Le-Tantitled Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die By Your Side). And no. It has nothing to do with skateboarding.
The four day International Skateboard Film Festival presented by Vans kicks off tonight (October 21, 2011) at Los Angeles California’s Downtown Independent Theater with a 3D Filmmaking Panel Discussion featuring director Ty Evans with screenings of Girl Skateboards’ Unbeleafable, Krooked’s Kook3d 3D DVD, and Red Bull’s Canvas 3D Skate.
A Film Festival dedicated to skateboarding solely, a festival rooting itself in the heart of the skateboard industry and aiming for the general audience had yet to become a reality. A skateboard film festival held in the City of Angels made perfect sense.
The skateboard film festival runs Friday, October 21 to Tuesday, October 25, 2011. For all the details click the flyer to see if full-size.
Wilmer Valderrama, Jeff Renfroe and Kathy Herndl, the producers of a documentary on the life of 7-year-old Venice skatepark dominator Asher Bradshaw, have reportedly decided to go to Kickstarter.com to crowd source funding for the film, according to a story on Hollywoodreporter.com.
To raise completion funds for the project, the filmmakers have turned to the crowd-funding site Kickstarter.com. . . “We’re so close,” says Herndl, who is also directing the film. “We need $100,000 for post production costs and to fund the film’s entry onto the vital film festival circuit. We want the world to experience Asher’s story.”
Better than standing out on a street corner with a sign. Those who supply more than $1,000 will be listed on the Shred movie website as an associate producer. If you’d like to buy in on the project, click here.
Deceased pro skateboarder Ben Pappas’ family used Facebook to help stop a planned documentary on the skater’s troubled life and death, according to a story in The Age.
The documentary, Gnarly: The Ben Pappas Story, being filmed by Mike Hill from Moonshine Movies, had been criticized as exploitative. . . [Hill] said it had been pulled as soon as he was made aware of the family’s concerns. A spokeswoman for Louise Asher, Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, said Film Victoria had withdrawn funding after Moonshine decided to make significant changes to the documentary.
According to the story Pappas’ body “was found in the Yarra River near Victoria Harbour in Docklands eight days after his ex-girlfriend Lynette Phillips’s battered body was discovered at Dights Falls in Abbotsford on March 3, 2007.” Not sure anyone needs to live through that all over again.
