Bam Margera isn’t ready for an easy drift off into a bloated, tattooed, alcoholic post-fame afterlife just yet. At least, not before taking a turn as a game show host on TBS’snew six-episode Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show, according to a story in the Hollywood Reporter.
“Competitors will vie for $10,000 by facing off against each other in incredibly demented, potentially dangerous and occasionally painful challenges, like answering trivia questions while dangling above a pool of trash-filled water or dropping a watermelon on a target after being shot out of a cannon. The loser of each challenge is eliminated until there’s only one contestant left standing to take home the cash prize.”
Sounds like the perfect vehicle for Bam. If we still had cable we’d be looking forward to it.
Terry Snow, the founder of World Publications who folded his company into the Bonnier Corp and then purchased 18 magazines titles from Time Inc. (including TransWorld Media) has announced that he will officially retire on January 14, 2013, according to a story in Folio. Taking over for Snow will be his long-time number two and current SVP of Bonnier Active Interest Dave Freygang.
“I’ve worked closely with Dave for many years, and I am very happy to see him take over the leadership role,” says Snow in a statement. “For me, it’s been an amazing journey working with so many talented people at Bonnier who day-in and day-out create fabulous brands. I know Bonnier Corp. has a great future ahead and I look forward to contributing in new ways.”
Snow will reportedly continue as a shareholder and member of the board of directors. Seems like Snow timing continues to be almost perfect.

“I was on my book tour in 2009, and I was really afraid of public speaking,” said Yogis, 33, sitting in his kitchen looking out at the pounding waves of San Francisco’s Ocean Beach. “Then my girlfriend and I broke up, and I went into a downward spiral of fear and jealousy. That’s when I thought it would be interesting to write a book about fear.”
Without getting too bogged down in science speak Yogis interviews a range of fear experts from neuroscientists, meditation experts, and psychologists, to his big wave surfing friends from Mavericks. What he ends up with is a readable, personal, adventure book that digs deep without getting buried. And that’s not an easy thing to do. Its smooth easy-yet-deep reading reminded us of another surf/science book we enjoyed titled, West of Jesus by Steven Kotler. The Fear Project is available today for $14.14. Click here to buy it.
Here’s how the rest of the world is treating Tony Hawk’s Instagram photos of him skateboarding with is daughter. Tony’s response yesterday via Instagram: “One more from yesterday (via @msk8blake). For those that say I endanger my child: it’s more likely that you will fall walking on the side walk than I will skateboarding with my daughter.”

Our Apple TV seemed lost without the weekly Shralp! snowboarding edits and just when we were beginning to think it was over for good we got his message from Shralp! founder Mee-Z letting us know the edits are back on and kicking off with this exclusive edit from the Oakley Shaun White Air & Style.
“When I started shralp! the Video iPod was the latest shit. Downloadable video podcast were basically the only way to distribute a video magazine online.” explains Christan ‘mee-z’ Miessner, founder and maker of shralp! “Now YouTube is the largest distribution platform for video content and shralp! is still on, adapting to the new situation with even more programs.” . . . shralp! is the longest running snowboarding video podcast and now in it’s 8th year. Since October 2005 shralp! covers people, WST/TTR contests, competitions, powder, big mountain riding, tricks, products, events, video previews and everything else that matters in the snowboarding scene.
The artist/filmaker Thomas Campbell aka T Mossian has a new book out titled Slide your Brains Out.
The first of ten projected volumes in Um Yeah Press’ surf photobook series, Slide Your Brains Out compiles work from the past 15 years. Often lo-fi and gritty, other times lush and saturated, Campbell’s compositions–which include portraits and action shots of some of the best surfers in the world–are always surprising and full of emotion, from melancholy to exultation.
It’s a conversation that Snowboarder Magazine Editor Pat Bridges and journalist Colin Whyte have probably had hundreds of times over beer in some freezing ass mountain town dive, but now it’s for ESPN.com/Action and Whyte is getting paid. Don’t let that stop you from reading Bridges Tastemaker interview which includes nuggets like this:
As cliché as it is to say, I think we as snowboarders need to have more influence — and by “snowboarders” I don’t mean people who ride less than 10 days a year. Rather than calling out any specific groups, I will generalize by saying anyone who rides less than 10 days a year should have less say. . . This includes any agents who are out of touch, skiers, shop buyers, team managers, park managers, etc. … I could keep going for a while with that list.
It’s nice to see the business realities of corporate snowboard media haven’t clouded Bridges’ opinions all that much. Bottom line: the man is a snowboarding treasure.
