Just when we were about to throw in the towel on the ASP World Championship Tour’s J-Bay Pro, we get word that the ASP’s disciplinary panel has returned their verdict on Jeremy Flores‘ apparent violation of ASP rules conduct following his Round 2 heat loss to Sebastian Zietz. Flores has been suspended from the tour until August 27, 2014.
The incident involved the athlete confronting ASP officials and event staff in an unsportsmanlike manner and resulted in the Rules and Disciplinary Committee, after completing its investigation, fining the surfer US$6,000 and suspending him from ASP competitions until August 27, 2014. As a result, Flores is ineligible to compete in both the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach (an ASP Prime QS event) and the Billabong Pro Tahiti (an ASP WCT event).
Stab Magazine (which apparently still pays people to travel to surf events, watch them all day, and then write about it) described Flores’ altercation with the judges as follows:
Craig Jarvis wrote for Stab, “He came out the water bristling, and continued to bristle all the way up to the tower, where his board being thrown onto the deck made such a loud noise that it sounded like some sort of structural damage had happened. . . “Then there was a torrent of angry, abusive words aimed at the judges. Grannies tut-tutted down below, parents put their hands over their kids’ ears, and security went scrambling, eventually placating the situation. . . “As everyone watched closely the ASP closed ranks and went into a huddle. Jeremy returned. The huddle broke. It was announced that Jeremy had apologized to the ASP and that a disciplinary committee would deal with the matter. Thus ended Jeremy’s African adventure.”

Yeah, Taj Burrow and us have something in common–we both like getting our tail pads right. And now, Taj is handing over his tail pad (leash and board bag) needs to the crew at Modom.
“I’m so stoked to be riding for MODOM,” says Taj Burrow. “They’re even bigger hardware geeks than I am! I fit right in. I like my leggies to be perfect and I’m really fussy with board bags as well, which you have to be when you lug them around the world as much as I do. But it’s my tail pads I really get excited about. I love getting my tail pads right and I love the feel of them under your feet when you do.”

Thought you just did the Agenda Show? Oh no, you’re not done yet. The best Agenda Show, at their new NYC Javits Center North location rolls out Monday and Tuesday, July 21-22, 2014 and there is still time to register.
Agenda:NYC occurs twice a year during New York Men’s Market Week. During this week, a total of seven trade shows take place and the city is inundated with thousands upon thousands of men’s fashion buyers, media and tastemakers. One of the more intimate gatherings in scale, the Agenda:NYC show takes place in the heart of Manhattan, and hosts around 250 brands across roughly 100,000 square feet.

Ryan Burch builds it and rides it. But that means he also spends a lot of time in the sun and it’s apparently why he wears a nice pair of Spy Alcatraz sunnies.
. . . a young pro surfer that not only shapes his own equipment, but questions and pushes design to new, truly unique places. Often seen anywhere from Cardiff to Bali riding anything from homemade 9’6″ logs to a 4′ block of foam, take in the intricacies surrounding Burch’s love of board design and reeling point breaks over a pot of jet black java.

Vans is happy to announce that regardless of the fact that the 2014 US Open of Surfing is a QS for the men, that doesn’t mean that the big guns won’t be there to surf in front of the world’s largest, most appreciative crowd in surfing. No the big guns will be there including: Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith, Julian Wilson, Josh Kerr, CJ Hobgood, Sebastian Ziets, and even the misto Dane Reynolds, just to name a few.
The Vans US Open is a pivotal point on the Men’s ASP Qualification Series and Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT). For the men, a win at the Vans US Open – ASP Men’s Prime event – will earn them valuable points toward a coveted Top 10 QS ranking. And for the women, with a close race for the ASP World Title, the Vans US Open of Surfing marks a key midseason stop on the Women’s WCT. Alongside the ASP QS and WCT competition, Vans will host the ASP Pro Juniors for men’s and women’s, prepping the field for a spot in the coveted ASP World Junior Championships.

The waves at Cloudbreak did not live up to their reputation the week of the 2014 Fiji Pro, but that didn’t stop Garbriel Medina from ripping the place apart. Medina decimated Kolohe Andino in semi-final two and then marched right through a hard charging Nat Young to take the win (June 6, 2014) and the top position on the ASP world title rankings list.
“It’s great to be back at the top of the ratings, it’s still early but I’m feeling good,” said Gabriel Medina. “I’ve never surfed at Jeffreys Bay before but I’m going home after this to prepare and I’ll be working hard. Nat (Young) is a great guy and that was a good Final against him. I was so nervous inside those barrels, I couldn’t see anything, but when I came out I was stoked. Thanks to the Namotu guys who were supporting me. Thanks to everyone in Fiji, I just love it here especially with a win.”
