With “urban snowboarding” on the up, something like this was bound to happen.
Cattaraugus County Sheriff Dennis John says the teen was snowboarding down Burt road heading toward Miller Hill road when he was struck by a car driven by 20- year-old Nathan Green of Friendship.
Adam O’Neill, 19, died from the injuries sustained in this crash. His mother spoke to reporters from WKBW. Click the link for the rest of the story.

Mike Basich has always done things his way no matter what. He’s been a pro snowboarder, a snow/skate shop owner, and all along he’s been keeping the 241 flame alive. The Colfax Record, catches up with Mikey and discusses his new snowboard company.
This project has been a combination of trying to make something that is environmentally friendly and rides great,” he said. “I want the graphic to remain the same until the technology within the board changes.” . . . Basich starts with a wood core he mills from an 80-foot pine tree that fell on his property. Combined with Tulipwood, he believes the core is a perfect balance of shock absorption and flexibility.
We don’t doubt him for a minute.

Coming sometime next summer The Skateboard Film Festival promises “To bring together skateboard filmmakers of all ages and caliber from around the world and challenge them artistically through creative achievement in film and video.”
So far it’s going to happen on “a weekend in the summer of 2009 in Seattle, Washington.”

A film company called Embryo Films will be shooting a feature film in Breckenridge this spring titled Zombie On Board, according to a story in The Summit Daily.
Described as a “somewhat gruesome comedy,” the film chronicles a group of highly functioning zombie snowboarders who take a small mountain town by storm during Mardi Gras. . . .“When you think of zombie movies you usually get a certain image, but we are going for a more comedic angle,” director Jeff Bollow said. “Our aim is to straddle the line between edgy and funny, and we think we have a pretty solid concept.
Zombie snowboarders? Seems like zombie skiers would be more believable.

Women’s Wear Daily did a really nice feature profile on Active Ride Shop in their Independent Spotlight section today.
It was so nice that it didn’t even mention any of the problems we’ve all been hearing about since last fall: no mention of the fact that many manufacturers are no longer shipping product to Active, or the rumor that one company spent last fall physically removing product from the stores. The only nod to the realities of the current business climate was this from Active President Shane Wallace:
It’s tough right now. In our 20 years, this is the most interesting and most difficult environment to move in I’ve seen,” Wallace said, adding that he would wait to up the store count until the economy improves or until Active finds an investment partner to help take the chain national. . . Looking toward the new year, Wallace is cautious, but positive. “We’re playing it very conservative for 2009,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t rule out store closings, if needed. “We’ll do what makes sense for our business.”
Yeah, playing it conservative probably isn’t a bad idea at this point.

KISS bassist Gene Simmons is apparently attending the SIA Show with Dussault Apparel founder Jason Dussault to help roll out their new MoneyBag line.
Dussault and Simmons will be showing their latest collaborations of hats and beanies to be released later this year under the MoneyBag(TM) moniker, as well as wallets, belts and luggage. Each item features the Gene Simmons created and designed MoneyBag(TM) logo.
We can’t help but laugh a little, but don’t think we won’t cruise by to see the knight in satan’s service in person, no matter how booty his products sound.
