Don’t know how a Tom Green and Dave England feature film could slip by us, but this straight to DVD delight titled Revenge of the Boarding School Dropouts appears to have all the proper ingredients for shred film delights including a cornball story:
Max and Eddie have finally achieved their dream of managing a successful snowboarding team, but as the party atmosphere heats up, the temptation to run wild takes hold. Now that the team is a success, Max and Eddie are rolling in cash. But sometimes success makes us lose sight of the things that matter most, and forget how we soared to such heights in the first place. Realizing that they’re suddenly at risk of losing everything they’ve worked so to hard to create, these two reformed slackers fight to save their team and take back the mountain.
Ah, the story of rebellion and redemption on a snow-covered mountain. We can hardly wait.

Not that we’re on some daytime TV kick lately but on Wednesday May 13, 2009 Shaun White will be on the Bonnie Hunt Show. We believe it’s called a “talk show.” What will Shaun and the star of Jumanji talk about in front of an audience of 54-year-old women?
According to Bonnie’s website they will discuss “his cause and how he’s helping kids.” How does Shaun feel about his appearance on the show?
“Hi I’m Shaun White . . . and I’m really excited to have this opportunity.”
Watching the promo clip with its laugh track, and fake livingroom set makes us realize how terminally far our media viewing habits have gotten from the average TV viewing population. It’s kind of frightening, actually.

Former Alpine snowboard racer Jeff Archiblad and US Team SBX coach was named 2009 Snowboarding International Coach of the Year by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association and will be honored at an awards dinner on May 15, 2009 in Park City.
“Our SBX program had an unbelievable season. Strong coaching and leadership are key components to that success,” U.S. Snowboarding Program Director Jeremy Forster said. “Jeff has been instrumental in building the SBX program. As a former World Cup competitor his ability to relate to the athletes and his respect for and from the athletes are invaluable to the progress we have made.”
Nothing like getting a pat on the back from your boss. Not that we would know anything about that.

Snowboard instructor Keith McIntosh, 36, was testing new snowboard gear on Austria’s Kaunertaler Glacier on Tuesday April 5, 2009 “when he triggered a massive snowfall,” according to a story on the Daily Record.
His three British friends – who had been waiting on the peak for their turn – said Keith had barely gone 200ft when the snow-face fell away and engulfed him. . . Keith, of Clydebank, near Glasgow, was among Britain’s top snowboarding instructors and he moved to the French resort of Chamonix in 2002. . . He lived with his wife of seven years, Melanie, 37, and two-year-old son Arren.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

Snowboard mountaineer and adventure cinematographer John Griber is lucky to be alive after an avalanche hit him and his crew while filming on Mt. Everest last Saturday, according to a story in the Jackson Hole News & Guide.
It happened while Griber was descending the Khumbu icefall. A serac collapsed 3,000 feet above Griber on the west shoulder of Everest and came crashing down toward him. . . .“I was directly in its path,” Griber wrote in an e-mail to the Jackson Hole News&Guide. “There was no running from it. I jumped behind about a 15-foot serac but I was still clipped to the fixed line and couldn’t get close enough to feel super safe. The slide went over top of me; the force knocked the wind out of me; and snow filled my mouth and I couldn’t breath or see anything for 20 seconds.”
Apparently, no one was hurt in the slide. Griber is on Everest this spring collecting film footage for Eddie Bauer’s new clothing line First Ascent. How’s that for extreme advertising?

The marketing heads at Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate apparently get all powered up from perusing photos of stacked, stinking, snow shred houses, what other reason could they have for their new Flophouse photo contest?
The SDS has been collecting entries we’ve gotten throughout the season, getting ready to vote on the World’s Best Flophouse of the 2009. The winning crew will get 5 Rome decks to fight over. We’ll be deciding around mid July, so get your photos from the season together and get to uploading by the entry deadline, June 15th.
