Pro skater Terry Kennedy, 36, was reportedly arrested on July 27, 2021 in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois for allegedly “violently attacking a man at the motel” and “threatening to kill police” according to a story on TMZ.
During the booking process, though, the spokesperson says the skater became aggressive toward cops. . . Kennedy allegedly threatened to murder officers NINE different times … with the spokesperson saying Kennedy told cops, “I will kill one of you police. We kill police where I’m from.” . . .The spokesperson says Kennedy then referenced a 2017 cop-killing incident in Whittier, CA. … claiming the skateboarder said, “We killed ya’ll in Whittier, California. We killed ya’ll bitch ass.”
Kennedy was reportedly out on bail for a previous arrest when this arrest happened and is now in jail after apparently not posting a $100,000 bond. Sounds like things aren’t going as well as they should be for the talented skateboarder and we hope he’s able to sort things out.

[Update August 1. 2021: the man Kennedy allegedly attacked, 23-year-old Josiah Kassahun (an acquaintance of Kennedy’s), died from his injuries on Saturday, July 31, 2021, according to a new story on TMZ.]

Update August 10, 2021 From the Chicago Suntimes:
Prosecutors say Terry Kennedy, Josiah Kassahun, and Kennedy’s ex-girlfriend checked out of a room at the Comfort Suites Motel just after 11 a.m. on July 27 and were walking to the ex-girlfriend’s car when Kennedy became enraged for no apparent reason.
Kassahun told Kennedy to calm down, and Kennedy punched him in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement, prosecutors said. Kennedy then allegedly kicked Kassahun before fleeing in the ex-girlfriend’s car.

Twenty-twenty-one is a huge year for skateboarding and surfing. If you haven’t heard both are now Summer Olympic sports (Thanks, Fernando). We were saddened to learn that Vans co-founder Paul Van Doren died yesterday, Thursday, May 6, 2021. He was 90.
“In 1966, Paul, his brother James Van Doren, and their friends Gordon, Ryan Emmert and Serge D’Elia became partners in opening the first Vans store, according to Wikipedia. It took a year to build and set up the factory at 704 East Broadway in Anaheim.”
A week and a half ago Paul’s memoir Authentic was released.
In Authentic, he shares his unlikely journey from high-school dropout to sneaker-industry legend. A blue-collar kid with no higher education and zero retail experience, Van Doren started out as a 16-year-old “service boy” at a local rubber factory. Over the next few decades, he leveraged a knack for numbers, a genius for efficiency, and the know-how to make a great canvas tennis shoe into an all-American success story. What began as a family shoe business has today evolved into a globally recognized brand with billions of dollars of annual revenue.
Thanks Paul for all you did for all of us and for living an incredible, authentic life. Our thoughts are with the entire Van Doren family. If you have a Paul Van Doren story to share, please leave it in the comments.

Yes, the USA Skateboarding Olympic Team now has an official fingerboard sponsor and it is, unsurprisingly, Tech Deck. Here’s USA Skateboarding’s take:
