Our friends at Yobeat.com (who apparently still follow the snowboarding resort business world) pointed out this morning that a judge in the Park City vs. Talisker legal battle has decided that Park City must post a bond of $17.5 million by September 12, 2014 if it expects to operate the lifts on Talisker’s land this winter. Will they pay? A $17.5 million bond is chump change compared to how far the real estate value on all those slope side condos will fall when there are no slopes (or lifts) to be on the side of.

We won’t really mention much more than to say it’s been really, really hot lately. So hot that we’re forced to spend most of our afternoons in search of air-conditioned and/or shady wet spaces.
Yesterday, our hunt took us to a Barnes & Noble where, to our surprise, they still have a very large and seemingly vibrant newsstand filled with magazines. As we brought our core temps down out of the fever range, we had the chance to check out how the three majors (Snowboard, Snowboarder, and Snowboarding) handled their annual product previews. Firstly, we were astounded by how much time, energy, and creativity the went into reproducing all the manufacturer’s websites in print. Don’t think that anyone is coasting in the print biz these days. They’re all working their asses off.
After cruising through the issues we decided that our favorite was Snowboard Mag’s “The Product Collection” issue. Editor Susie Floros and her team got the product mix just right. They had to most visually compelling product shots and action images, but more importantly they got the story telling side of the product down. And that’s not easy when everyone just wants their new graphics to get some play. Our favorite features were the interviews and profiles on people who make the snowboard industry work. Sure, no one went off message, but it was nice to see what some snow heads are up to, where they came from, and where they think snowboarding is headed.
We’d have more to say, but the air con in B&N was so frosty that we nearly froze and had to put the magazine back and go outside to warm up. Mission accomplished.

When Celtek founders Bjorn and Erik Leines decided to make a snowboard movie they wanted to do something different.
Instead of rider parts you’ll uncover what riding is like in two distinctive locations; Minnesota / The Midwest and UT / The Rocky Mountains. Nothing to Prove will show you what it’s like to ride with your friends and support them whether they are doing a mellow powder turn or airing over a 5 story roof-to-roof gap. Hi-Fives, hangouts, hospital visits and sessions all have one thing in common..community. It was only natural that Erik and Bjorn called on the CELTEK team to ride with and be featured throughout this movie.

Vice Films (yeah, those Capitalist hipsters whose company is now valued at $2.5 billion) is releasing a documentary on the downfall of the extremely talented skateboarding brothers Tas and Ben Pappas.
Utilizing archives of footage taken throughout the brothers’ lives through to the present day, paired with interviews with other legendary skateboarding stars, All This Mayhem chronicles the brothers’ meteoric rise to number one and two in the world and the heartbreaking personal and professional story that ensued. . . FilmBuff and VICE Films will release the film theatrically in select markets, and on all leading On Demand platforms including iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Google Play, XBOX Video, and Sony PlayStation on September 9th.

These retro skateboard designs are taking skateboarding back 100 years to the days of a two-by-four and a fruit crates, but doing it in an all new way.
Utilizing high quality Baltic Birch and Canadian Maple for both the crate and modern skateboard deck, Skate Crate replaces the bone shaking metal wheels of old with smooth riding urethane cruiser wheels. The crates feature eyelet hooks to easily tie down a 12-pack, groceries, or a backpack inside the box. Vintage fruit crate labels, classic motorcycle racing, and car club designs were the influence for the fully-assembled Flying Tiger, Raceway, and Sidewalk Screamer models. The DIY kits come unassembled with racing-inspired decals available to encourage hands-on fun.
