California Skateparks’ Joe Ciaglia and crew have finally made it into the pages of the 2019 Guinness Book of World Records with the world’s largest skateboard (35 feet, 7 inches long).
Joe Ciaglia, director of California Skateparks, originally created the big board for MTV series Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory and is a 12.5 scale replica of Dyrdek’s own board.. . “The hardest part was not having any directions or blueprints,” he told Guinness World Records. “We just started and figured it out as we progressed. The process took us about 10 weeks, a lot of things were trial and error.”
Enjoy part one of ACDMY 72. It’s a series of short edits from Academy Snowboards captured within 72 hours from a specific place. This episode is from Colorado, but they’ve got more coming from Tahoe, Bear Mountain, and some other spots. Stay tuned and enjoy.
For some truly international competitive surf action check out the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games from Tahara, Japan September 15-22, 2018. The ISA seems to know which way their fins go.
Watching smart, talented people go all cutesy/sexy in their hunt for more views on the Youtubes can get annoying, but this short on the physics of skateboarding with (cough, cough) “Physics Girl” (a.k.a Dianna Cowern) also features Rodney Mullen. And since he can do no wrong, we endured the cute and exited the bit even more enlightened on why we still have trouble doing even the simplest flip trick and how amazing skateboarding is as a math problem (thanks, Dianna). The Linda Vista skatepark backdrop didn’t hurt either. Watch and learn.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, adidas Skateboarding and BEYOND THE STREETS, in partnership with Juice Magazine, officially celebrated the recreation of the iconic Venice Pavilion with a BBQ-style block party showcasing the best of Venice Beach’s skateboarding, graffiti, and music scenes with an all-star skate jam and concert. Thrashin’, thrashin’. . . “Daggers.!”
Surprisingly, and totally unprompted on Memorial Day we happened to re-watched Thrashin’, the movie that mythologized the “Venice Pit.” Synchronicity? We wouldn’t rule it out.
French Phenom Killian Guerin has put out another edit from somewhere around the world and this time it’s the Telos. Aptly called The Teloscopia, it’s just another check in from Killian showing how much more he progresses and charges with every edit. Perfect viewing for a Friday afternoon “at work.”
