THIS Los Angeles is opening their These Friends Three show tonight, Friday February 24, 2012 from 7 to 10 PM. The show features 100 pieces from 100 artists. Here are some of our friends who are included in the show:
Arlie Carstens, Chris Pastras, Cole Barash, Don Pendleton, Geoff McFetridge, Jared Eberhardt, and Natas Kaupas.
Billy Marks and Mike Vallely sit down with Erica Yary and Rob Brink at the Weekend Buzz table to talk balls. Billy Marks balls, Chet Childress balls, and Mike V.’s “old man balls. . . that really hang long and sway and shit.” If that doesn’t make you want to watch this clip we don’t know what will.
The crew at Chasing Monsters captured the last big Mavericks swell with some of the most amazingly super-slow motion footage we’ve seen in a while. And having Skindog as a guide only makes it better.
The world famous Carlsbad Gap was torn down yesterday Thursday, February 23, 2012 to make room for renovations on the campus of Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, California. We can still see Kris Markovich hitting that thing in our mind’s eye. It’s nice to see that workers showed respect and used a monster-sized excavator to remove the historic gap because it wasn’t going down easy. We’re not going to say much about this Polar Skate Co. promo video from Klez Motion Pictures International other than we’re always suckers for a Devo song. . .
This video was apparently designed to show off the StreetStik electric off-road skateboard, but it’s really all about sad little Esther — a girl forced to ride an electric skateboard round and round in a park wearing only a pink bikini.
Over the years Newport Beach, California has become a breeding ground for jacked up rolling toys of all kinds. Time to add the Surf Skate to the list. It’s a skateboard with a 360 degree rotational front truck set up that reportedly allows skateboarders to ride just like surfers. Okay. . .
Steve Caballero tells the story of how his signature shoe the Half Cab got its start in the Vans line-up 20 years ago. And he tells it from a Bondi roof-top at a Bowl-A-Rama pre party.
Powder & Rails takes a look back at the life and legacy of Chuck Barfoot the legendary snowboard shaper, skateboard maker, and always smiling board sports ruler. Looks like nothing has changed even the way Ken Achenbach can hi-jack pretty much anything. . . including a video profile. . .
Shawn Stussy is someone we often wonder about. There is much about the action fashion business word that Shawn hasn’t experienced two or three times. Having sold off his last name years ago, he continues to dabble in the things that made him famous, but at a much slower, lower pace. Seth Epstein rolled by Shawn’s S/DOUBLE Studio with a Canon 5D Mark 2 and rolled some video for a while. This is the result.
