Check out the trailer for the powerful film Alekesam that explores the life of musician Hugh Masekela and his relationship to his son, action sports announcer, Sal Masekela. As director Jason Bergh says:
It began as a simple, four minute promo for my dear friend Sal Masekela’s new album, and emerged as the greatest project of my career, and the most important story I have ever told. The world has known Sal Masekela as the face of action sports for more than fifteen years. But they have not known the man behind the name, Selema Mabena Masekela, whose last name represents not only worldwide musical success and fame, but personal and political struggle.
We’re looking forward to seeing this one.

If this footage of Lee Wilson doesn’t get you packing your bags for Indo, we’re not really sure there’s anything that will.

Allen Ginsberg saw the best minds of his generation “destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix” and it looks like Jed Anderson, Laurent-Nicolas Paquin, Jake Kuzyk, Darrell Mathes, Danny Larsen, Jake Olsen-Elm, Gus Engle, Nima Jalali, Nick Dirks, Jonas Michilot, and Desiree Melancon are right there with him on the Howl team. Apparently, Danny Way’s ten-year-old dream has been to build his very own Mega ramp in at his house in Kauai. Looks like he’s finally done it.
Here’s the story of how Danny rediscovered his dream and brought to life this never before been constructed ramp he envisioned a decade ago.
Sadly, to see the results of this dream you’ll have to see his movie Waiting for Lightning, because this is just a teaser.

Last night, April 10, 2012, most everyone was in Hollywood for the premiere of the Danny Way bio-pic Waiting For Lightning at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome.
Following the premiere everyone rolled over to the for an after party at The Roosevelt Hotel.
If you (like us) missed the movie and all the Hollywood celebrity action, just click right here to see all the photos of stars like Danny Way and his Mom (above), Ken Block, Tommy Lee, The Dingo, Johnny Knoxville, Daryl Hannah, Steve-O, and Adriana Patridge.
We’re guessing there were some skaters there as well, but not many of them made the red carpet cut it seems.

The Nike Lowers Pro returns to San Clemente, California May 1 – 5, 2012. The ASP Prime contest features at $250,000 prize purse and maybe even a few touring pros that don’t surf for Nike.
With a win at the Nike Lowers Pro equivalent in ratings points to a third-place finish at an ASP World Tour event, it’s typical to see many of the World’s Elite 34 in the line up. Past winners have included: 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, Fla.), the late, great three-time World Champion Andy Irons (Hanalei, Haw.), Rob Machado (Encinitas, Calif.) and Tom Curren (Santa Barbara, Calif.), to name just a few.
So yeah, this is a pretty serious contest. Click the year for photos from past Nike Lowers Pros: 2011, 2010 or follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
