David Carson is a design genius. From creating the iconic TransWorld Skateboarding logo, to work with Ray Gun, Beach Culture, and Surfermagazines Carson has done more to rearrange the visual language of action sports than anyone else. What he does looks easy. How hard is it to cut stuff up, rearrange it, then slap it back down? But, as anyone who has tried knows, getting something that looks good (and communicates on a deeper level) is difficult. Now, thanks to MasterClass we all can learn the basics from the man himself. We know you’re already watched this Tom Curren joint at least a dozen times. We’re just posting it to have it logged for the future. And because we can’t stop watching that alaia slip. If you’d like to visit that wave, just click the link and get out your credit card.
Nice to see the macho police violence disease flows smoothly across the northern border. It’s almost as if violence is inherent in the system. All this after the longboard skateboarder was accused of “running a red light.” We particularly enjoyed the way the officer kept throwing the kid’s backpack onto the ground and into trunk hoping to teach even inanimate objects who’s the boss around Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
In December of 2019, a group of Jones Snowboards team riders was involved in a serious avalanche in the Lake Tahoe backcountry. Luckily, no one was injured, thanks to the quick work of the rest of the riders in the group.
We’re humbled to share the story of this accident, and the lessons learned from everyone involved, in a new educational video. Please watch and learn from our mistakes about how to avoid such a close call with tragedy, and why it’s crucial to practice your avalanche rescue skills at the start of every season.
The London-based Turkish designer Dilara Findikoglu teams up with local skate crew, Yillar Ziyan, to show you the beautiful chaos of the country’s largest city in a new short film.
December marks the 11th year that Jones Snowboards has kicked off the new season with Avalanche Awareness Month.
December is the perfect month for taking the time to focus on avalanche and rescue skills so you’re confident in your knowledge for the rest of the season.
And, to kick off the kick off, Jeremy Jones explaining his approach to the mountains and some safety lessons that he’s learned during his decades in the back country. Click play on the video below.
The San Francisco skate scene lost a mover, uniter, and heroine on Friday, November 27, 2020 when Thuy Nguyen, the co-founder of SF Skate Club died after a 15 month battle with stomach cancer, according to a story on SF Gate. She was 41.
The SF Skate Club began as a summer camp in 2007. Nguyen, who had worked as a teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District as well as a mentor at Friends of the Children in Hunters Point, noticed many of her young students had taken up an interest in skateboarding, but that there was a shortage of spaces in the city for them to safely practice their newfound skills. She left her teaching job to spearhead the organization with her husband Shawn Connolly, a longtime skateboarder who has been featured in Slap, Thrasher and Transworld magazines. Together, they purchased a 15-passenger van on Craigslist to take kids on outings to skate parks across the Bay Area.
Our thoughts are with Nguyen’s family, friends, and everyone who joined in with the SF Skate Club.
