Tony Hawk’s New Sidekick

by The Editors on July 18, 2008

Sidekick

Hi, this is Tony Hawk. I’m out on the road with the Boom Boom Huckjam right now but I wanted to just call and let you know that my new Sidekick phone from T-Mobile is out and it’s great. If you’d be nice enough to buy one I would really appreciate it. Hope you’re having a great day. Love and kisses. Tony

Wii Skate It Gets Skated

by The Editors on July 8, 2008

Skate It Leadin-1

The game nerds at Kotaku have skated the new Skate It for Wii with the game’s balance board and they say it’s a pretty fun way to play a skateboarding video game.

Still, I left Skate It pretty impressed, admiring the control scheme and seemingly smart implementation of the Balance Board. We’re looking forward to spending more time with it at E3, but for now we’ll just soak in the screen shots and become more familiar with the controls.

If only we had a Wii. Guess we’ll just have to wait for the DS version.

Surfline.com Live Wave Forecasting Concert?

by The Editors on July 3, 2008

Sp Forecasters 003In what looks to be one of the dullest shows ever to play The Belly Up in Solana Beach, CA four members of Surfline.com’s “forecast team” will appear live from 1-4 pm on July 12, 2008 to show people how to use the website’s forecast tools. What?

For a $10 cover charge, people will get 3 hours packed with surf forecasting info and chances to win lots of cool surf gear from South Coast Surf Shop, Kommunity, Dakine, FCS, and Bulky Boy. The afternoon will include a presentation, plus open Q & A sessions throughout the rest of the day. Each forecaster will have a laptop so they can show people the most efficient ways to navigate the site based on their forecasting needs.

Each forecaster will have a laptop? Someone, please tell us this is a joke?

Tony Hawk Gets A Sidekick

by The Editors on June 5, 2008

2-Tony Hawk X SidekickAs anyone who has read Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay knows; all super heros must have a diminutive, effeminate sidekick. Now, thanks to T-Mobile Tony Hawk has his own limited edition Sidekick phone.

The T-Mobile Sidekick LX Tony Hawk Edition will be the first Sidekick to ship with video record, play and share. It also includes other enhancements such as a more personalized Web browsing experience, stereo Bluetooth support, easier downloads and more options for theme and background personalization.

Though sadly, Sidekicks do not sync with Apple computers.

Shaun White Snowboarding Dropping

by The Editors on May 29, 2008

White

We all knew it was on the way, but gamers are getting sneak peaks at the new Ubisoft video game Shaun White Snowboarding. It’s supposed to launch in time for holiday 2008. The blogs aren’t all stoked, however. Kotaku said:

Ubisoft’s Shaun White seems to have plenty going for it, but nothing that made me think “Wow, this is incredibly different.” The game, heading to the Playstation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, uses the Assassin’s Creed engine and features an open mountain for gamers to explore.

For those of us who snowboard, it sounds pretty good. Especially since Shaun wrote the games entire script himself. Click the link for a video tease of the game.

Skateboard Inspired Cordless Phone

by The Editors on May 6, 2008

vtech_340x382.jpgWe don’t really know what this means, but Vtech, the maker of cordless phones has a new product out that is “inspired by skateboard and snowboard designs” whatever that means.

We guess that means large, loud graphics all over every surface of the phone, because, you know, that’s what the kids are loving these days.

Wasserman Media Buys Wetsand Technology

by The Editors on May 5, 2008

Chuck Menzel, the founder of Wetsand.com has sold the wave forecasting portion of his business to the Wasserman Media Group for an undisclosed sum, according to a Josh Hunter story on TransworldBusiness.com. He has, however, retained ownership of the Wetsand store front and commerce site.

It’s the creative side of it that we really wanted to maintain, and I’m still creatively in control of the site, as far as keeping it on track with content and credibility,” he says.

Menzel has been looking for buyers for his popular site for more than a year, and we’re guessing being a part of Sportnet (which also includes action sports sites: surfspot.com, motocross.com, 411vm.com, newschollers.com, skateboard.com and sk8site.com) is going to be a great fit. Especially, as surfspot.com continues to grow its traffic.

Nintendo Brings 1080 To DS

by The Editors on March 31, 2008

N64Classic4Fans of the classic Nintendo 64 snowboarding game 1080, rejoice. The classic old game has been tuned up and relaunched on the DS platform. They’ve also re-tooled Excitebike 64, Mario Tennis, The Legend of Zelda® Majora’s Mask, and Mario Party 3. And they’re selling them for only $19.99.
Kind of makes us bummed that we don’t have any boring conference calls to sit through.
