It seems that having an iPhone app has now become one of the check-off items for every well run event. Many, like the US Open of Surfing, are discovering that simply having the app doesn’t mean that the proper info is being distributed on the right channels.
On the surface the free US Open of Surfing app (click here to download it) has everything that an event app should. The opening screen features the following menu: Live, Schedule, News, Videos, Photos, Results, Media, and Shop. Under each of those is another slew of sub menus.
Now hipster artists who love the random artiness that Lomography cameras produce can take those retro rigs underwater thanks to a collab between Rip Curland Lomography.

In the suit, Hawk alleges when he signed the deal in 2005, Prime Entertainment “had no intention” of actually paying the guy what they promised. Instead, Hawk states he only received $35k of the $150k he was owed.
Lawsuits are just the way businessmen negotiate, right?
While iPhone fans are packing every Apple store in the world, Rob Dyrdek, P-Rod, and Chris Cole are apparently helping the opposing team. All three are scheduled for a skate demo today (June 24, 2010) at San Diego’s Fashion Valley to launch the opening of Microsoft’s fourth copy of the Apple’s store.
Dyrdek has apparently been on a Microsoft store-opening tour as of late. He was in Denver June 10 10 where he appeared with “Disney actress Demi Lovato.” Can’t say he’s not doing all he can for the Street League.
If you’re trying to get any business done today it might not be a bad idea to head down to the local Apple Store. We’re guessing most of the industry (including Nixon Art Director Michael Carter and Nixon co-founder Chad DiNenna (above), and Bond Snowboarding’sDan McNamara) is spending the morning on line for a new iPhone 4.
Imagine being the only one in a meeting this afternoon and not being able to throw down your new iPhone like a gauntlet. Oh, that would hurt.
Honestly, no one looked dumber last season than all the weekend warrior snow shreds we saw riding down the groomer with cameras sticking up out of the tops of their helmets like techno-dunce caps.
Now, thanks to Liquid Image Company, none of us will have to know they’re filming. That’s because Liquid Image has built the camera directly into a pair of goggles.
The hands free unit has a 5.0 MP (2560 x 1920) camera mode and a video mode that records HD720P video (1280×720) at a rate up to 30 frames per second with audio. Large side buttons along the right side of the frame allow for greater dexterity while wearing gloves. . . . The Summit Series HD can hold a Micro SD/SDHC Card up to 32 GB. With the use of a micro SD/SDHC card, the camera is capable of recording thousands of photos or hours of HD video.
Now if only these things synched with an iPhone for live Qik cam streaming. . .
Former Aussie skate filmers Ben Hazzard and Liam Stephens currently hold the number 2 paid app position in the Apple iTunes iPhone app store with their low-rez skateboarding game Stick Skater, according to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald.
We both grew up in Newcastle filming skate videos of local skaters, some of who have become world respected pro skater,” Hazzard said. . . “We modelled the skate animations on real skateboarders, and we specifically choose a particular pro skater, Jake Duncombe, who has a reputation for doing some of the best tricks.” . . Hazzard said the game allowed for many trick combinations. . . “While being a little exaggerated for entertainment purposes, they are still in touch with the progression of real skateboarding,” he said.
One of the coolest parts of the game is skating the famous spots including: the Carlsbad Gap, Hollywood High, Wilshire, and Love Park. We’re guessing this will be 99 cents well spent.
Wonder what kind of gentlemen’s agreement Tony Hawk and Shaun White have regarding video games? Because Tony’s new game Shred is rumored to possible get into a little snow and surf and Shaun’s new game Skateboarding (scheduled to arrive this fall) is not exactly a snowboard game.
Are the two monster boarding icons going head-to-head in the isles of the big box stores this Christmas? Looks probable.
Each time we see someone taking a brand new Apple product and wrecking itwe’re reminded of the scene in the Steven Spielberg’s creepy movieAI where a crowd of screaming futuristic MMA fans get boners watching sad little robots being torn apart by machines.
Why does the world take so much joy in seeing “revolutionary and magical” products destroyed? Built To Shred’s Jeff King and Chad Knight probably can’t shed any light on that, but they know one thing for sure: it’s great for traffic.
