Yesterday, on Steve Job’s 56th birthday, Apple announced an updated line of Macbook Pro computers. And what did they feature front and center? A photo of Billabong’s Laurie Towner charging Teahupoo. Apparently, someone at Apple has their priorities straight.

by The Editors on February 15, 2011

Wave Gardensite

There said there would be more information available on February 15, 2011 and they were right. The Wave Garden site is live. The site features lots descriptions of “Wavegarden’s cutting edge technology” but we still don’t quite understand how the waves are actually generated.

That said, the videos are amazing and few things are more beautiful than surfers flying down the line surrounded by grassy hills, oak trees in shortened light. There goes your Tuesday morning.

Atiba’s éS Book As An iPad App

by The Editors on February 11, 2011

Es Ipad

éS has just announced the release of their 15 Years of Atiba Jefferson Photography 1995 – 2010 book as an iPad app (no, it doesn’t work on an iPhone). Here’s what they’re saying about it:

The unique App features an overview of photos that legendary skateboard photographer Atiba Jefferson shot for éS over the past 15 years. The digital book brings you a vivid interactive consumer experience with features as videos and animated sequences that really bring the contents of the book to life.

But don’t worry kids: it’s a free app. Just have your grandma download it on her iPhone big letter edition iPad and check it out. We’re sure it’s amazing. If your grandma, aunt, or mom’s older, single, woman friend doesn’t have an iPad (they all seem too) then click here to watch a video of how the app works and leave it at that.

Go211.com Traffic Returns To Reality

by The Editors on February 9, 2011

Go211 Reach

We were always skeptical of Go211.com’s comically optimistic traffic number reporting. Now, it appears that whatever magic former CEO Sean Aruda was doing to prop up site traffic is not longer being done in his absence.

According to Alexa.com Go211.com’s reach has dropped 96.3 percent over the past six months and is now back down to where we always thought it was: just a little less than ours.

Sal Masekela talks TSO from TSO STUDIOS on Vimeo.

We know Sal Masekela hasn’t been spending all his post Daily 10 free time riding pow and surfing. He’s been busy doing some networking according to news released today. Apparently, ROAR the “Beverly Hills based talent agency” which represents Masekela has put him together with TSO Studios to help the company promote it’s line of “action sports how-to videos.”

Masekela also announced that TSO has added skateboarding icon and 3-time X Games Gold medalist Paul Rodriguez to their rapidly expanding roster of athletes. “We’re setting the bar as high as we can by signing athletes like P Rod. Riders that aren’t just the best in the world, but that also really want to give hands-on, personal instruction to help riders at all levels progress,” said Masekela. TSO and ROAR, a Beverly Hills based talent and brand management company that represents both Masekela and TSO, are aggressively pursuing world class talent to join Rodriguez on the TSO team in everything from skateboarding and snowboarding to surfing, motocross, and BMX.

White Still Losing Video Game Wars

by The Editors on February 2, 2011

Images-6When Shaun White announced that he was going to enter the celebrity video game market with a skateboarding game, we all wondered how he would do against the granddaddy of action sports videos Tony Hawk. According to a story in the Hollywood Reporter, Mr. White has had his ass handed to him in 2010.

In a battle between two generations of skateboarders, Hawk ruled the roost and kicked newcomer White to the curb. Activision’s Tony Hawk Shred sold over 135,000 copies in the U.S. alone in 2010, compared to under 60,000 copies of Ubisoft’s Shaun White Skateboarding, according to video game tracking firm The NPD Group.

We’ll have to see how those numbers will look when Shaun White’s games have been on the market for 10 years. . .

by The Editors on January 29, 2011

Rick AldenYesterday, January 28, 2011, while Skullcandy founder Rick Alden was busy bringing together some of the most authentic, pioneers in snowboarding (Chuck Barfoot, Terry Kidwell, and Kelly Jo Kelly) for a poster signing at the company’s SIA Snow Show booth, other execs were filing a Form S-1 with the SEC.

Nooka x Neff No Time Watch

by The Editors on January 24, 2011

Nooka Neff Blog 02

With the new Nooka Neff Mindstyle watch the next time someone asks you what time it is you can say, “If I’d spent my $150 on a watch rather than on this polyurethane art bracelet I’d be able to tell you.”

The description is our favorite part:

neff has joined together with nooka to produce a product reflective of the lifestyle of an action sports athlete. these two brands have created a limited edition timepiece that utilizes an array of bright colors that will be grasp attention whether on the slopes or catching a wave.

And, if you don’t like the Neff watch you can get one of Nickelodeon’s Sponge Bob Squarepants by Dalek for $150. We really are in collab hell.

SIA Denver: There’s An App For That

by The Editors on January 21, 2011

Snowshow App-1In past years our policy has always been to roam the SIA Snow Show and see what catches our eyes or ears. While this create epic moments of serendipitous discovery it also means that we often miss some really cool shit.

This year we won’t have that problem because the SIA has created an iPhone app (and Blackberry and Android apps for those sad lonely, beaten down workers forced to use shoddy tools). It’s called SIA 2011 and was created by Core Apps.

Use the SIA Snow Show App to navigate the Show with interactive floor plans, exhibitor lists, twitter feeds, events schedules, listings for Denver bars and restaurants and create your own Show schedule.

The digital map is reason enough to download the app, but add to that a searchable exhibitor list (with booth numbers and full contact info), an events schedule (which has not been updated yet), Twitter feed, Denver Guide, and contact info for all the speakers at SIA and it is a mandatory piece of software for anyone attending the show. One of the coolest bits is that exhibitors in the list can be starred and or checked off the list and later viewed in an “exhibitors visited list.” Keeping track of who to see and who we’ve seen has never been easier.

After years of being at SIA adrift and unguided, the SIA Snow Show app comes like a light in the darkness. Click this link for the iPhone version. You other smartphone heathens are on your own.

For the latest on the 2011 SIA Show follow the jump.
