Tony Hawk Gets Conde Nasty

by The Editors on September 15, 2008

Portfolio.com checked in with T. Hawk and he says he’s not afraid to “get his hands dirty.”

Tony Hawk is rich and chief executive of his own company, but that doesn’t mean he’s changed all that much from the skateboarding kid with a junk food diet. In fact, it’s something he says makes him a better C.E.O.

Kimbo Slice On The Floor

by The Editors on September 5, 2008

Kimbo

The other day when we said that Virtue was ASR’s new trade show for jacked up shit, we didn’t mean street brawler and EliteXC fighter Kimbo Slice. The guy is so tough that we ran away after snapping this photo.

But we wonder if he’s making as much money as that guy on the right. We’re guessing no.

Taj Burrow A Real Lifesaver

by The Editors on September 3, 2008

When Grant Boxall broke his neck surfing Western Australia, it was Taj Burrow who pulled him out. Boxall, who is now a paralympic rugby player in Bejing tells the whole story in the Sydney Morning Herald.

I went straight down and heard a crunch. I managed to get a few yells of help out. I tried to move my legs but nothing was happening. All the pain was in my head. I’d smashed it open. I was going under. I was panicking, it was all happening so quick. . . . Next thing I knew, this hand grabbed the scruff of my neck, or the back of my wettie, and ripped me back up. I was gulping air. It was Taj who grabbed me. He was saying, ‘Get on my board, try to get on my board.’ I was like, ‘I can’t, I can’t.’ It was just mayhem.”

Boxtall, who thought he was dying, was taken to the hospital by Taj and the boys. He’s been in a wheelchair since, but now he’s in the paralympics. All thanks to Taj.

Nothing Says Merry Christmas Like Bam

by The Editors on September 3, 2008

We’ve always heard that the number one money-maker for aging pop stars is always the “Christmas Album.” Guess the same goes for aging Jackasses. On December 2, 2008 Bam Margera along with Warner Home Video will be releasing Bam Margera Presents: Where the #$&% is Santa? as a direct to video product. Here’s how they describe it:

Superstar skateboarder and prankster Bam Margera grabs Christmas by the bells and pushes it over the edge! Bam and his band of hardcore hooligans take a riotous, rowdy road trip to the Arctic Circle to bring home Santa Claus as a Christmas surprise for Bam’s wife Missy. With stops on the way to visit their favorite head-banging metal bands, and with a pair of Finnish bad boys as their unruly guides, Bam and the guys wreak gut-busting chaos wherever they go. This hilarious, gross-’em-out feature includes insane antics, a rockin’ soundtrack, and the wickedest yuletide skate-jam EVER.

Hmm, wonder why this wasn’t released in theaters?

Bristol Palin’s Baby Daddy: A Snowboarder

by The Editors on September 2, 2008

Levi2Of course, we knew nothing would escape unscathed in the latest news from the McCain/Palin camp. Now, that we’ve all found out about who it was that impregnated Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter Bristol, the big question is, “What is he like?”

Well, Levi Johnston, 18, who obviously backs Billabong, described himself on his myspace page as follows:

‘I’m a f–kin’ redneck who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes. But I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s–t and just f–kin’ chillin’ I guess. Ya f–k with me I’ll kick ass.”

Makes us wonder if he’s a Transworld subscriber. If not, he probably should be.

Brandon Lee Learns to Surf

by The Editors on August 29, 2008

Pam AndersonPamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s 12-year-old son Brandon Thomas (who seems like a really cool kid) got a little surf lesson at Bondi Beach yesterday while his mom is in Australia doing promo for her new show Pam: Girl On The Loose.

Must be nice to go surfing while your mom is out selling her wares.

Sal Masekela Is Just Incredible

by The Editors on August 28, 2008

Sal-1The Daily 10 host Debbie Matenopoulos was recently profiled in The Times of South Africa and in the interview she was asked what she thinks about her co-host Sal Masekela. Here’s what she had to say:

. . . he is one of the most incredible, soft-spoken guys she has met, qualities which come from the days when he toured with his father, Hugh Masekela, for whom she has tremendous respect. “We have a lot of fun and he’s talented,” said Matenopoulos.

Can’t say we’d argue with her over much of anything, especially Sal.

Martin Luther King And Bam Margera. . .

by The Editors on August 27, 2008

BlogsizeRiver Front Times pulled together a list of ‘Lil Wayne quotes from all his best interviews and here is one of our favorites.

I love a nigga who do what the fuck he want, just like I told you, Martin Luther King said we can do what the fuck we want, he do what the fuck he want, him and Bam Margera. What will Bam do next? Whatever the fuck they want…that’s one of my favorite shows.” — Lil Wayne from an interview in Complex.

Yes, these hip hop poets certainly do mix it up well, don’t they?

Shaun White: Just Duo It

by The Editors on August 25, 2008

S Whiteduo

Shaun White recently appeared on Fox Sports list of Top two-sport Athletes of all time. He was sandwiched right in there ahead of “Bullet Bob” Hayes “the world’s fastest human in the 1960s” right behind Deion Sanders “the flashy, brash, and cocky” footballer and baseballer.

Not bad company if you’re stoked on team sports. We’re not, but luckily the Skateworks blog keeps track of that stuff for us.
