Bam’s Lastest Artwork: Minghags: The Movie

by The Editors on March 2, 2009

MinghagsApparently, the those who couldn’t wait for the sequel to Bam Margera’s Haggard: The Movie, only need to wait six more days as Minghags: The Movie is premieres March 8, 2009 at Philadelphia’s Backseat Film Festival, according to a blurb in the Philadelphia Daily News. Here’s what we can all look forward to:

Trailer trash rockers Lenny (BAM MARGERA) and Ponce (BRANDON DICAMILLO) have vowed revenge, on billionaire scum-bag Rut Ru (also BRANDON DICAMILLO) and his bloated sidekick Dominick (DAVE “LORD” BOTTARO) who have heisted Ponce’s cool invention, the Garbage Juicer! . . . and just when you thought the plot couldn’t be any more contrived, the triteness increases as Lenny and Rut Ru up the ante, culminating in cameos by JIMMY POP and EVIL JARED of the BLOODHOUND GANG, DON VITO, RAKE YOHN, “COMPTON ASS” TERRY KENNEDY, THE DUDESONS, PHIL AND APRIL MARGERA, BRANDON NOVAK, GINA LYNN, JESS MARGERA, CHAD GINSBURG, RYAN GEE, JOE FRANTZ, and a slew of B-listers from the CKY videos!

We’re just sorry we can’t be there to see it in person.

Kelly Riding Slatercrafts At Snapper

by The Editors on February 26, 2009

250 Slater Narrowweb 300X353,0We’ve heard rumors that Kelly Slater has been spending a lot of time at Channel Islands’ headquarters lately and we’re beginning to understand why: he was shaping a new quiver for his campaign for number 10, according to a story in the Brisbane Times.

“I’m in experimental mode right now. I bought a bunch of boards that I’ve actually shaped. Little boards. I’ve been riding some four-fins. I think I’ve found something for me that feels really good, really fast and responsive with a lot of drive,” Slater said. . . .”Hopefully I can feel confident enough on those boards to ride them. If not, I can use the equipment I’ve been on for my whole career.”

The Quiksilver Pro starts at Snapper Rocks on Saturday (which is tomorrow in Australia) so we’ll all know soon enough if these new boards work, or if they’re just more mojo from the master of mystery.

Women’s Wear Daily Gets In Trouble

by The Editors on February 26, 2009

Big-TroubleTrevor Andrew has apparently caught the eye of Women’s Wear Daily and they decide to go shopping with him:

Inappropriately dressed for the bitter cold in a denim jacket, hoodie and skinny black jeans — accessorized with gold chains, a Gucci belt and oversize pink Oakley sunglasses — Andrew has a scrappy hipster-meets-B-boy look that doesn’t mesh with his “Trouble Andrew” moniker. Nevertheless, he insists, “I’m trouble — in a good way.” . . . A two-time Olympic snowboarder, Andrew is shopping for a few pieces to add to his wardrobe, which, he says, has been stretched thin by the spate of press obligations surrounding the release of his self-titled debut album earlier this month.

Guess this is the kind of coverage that starts happening when you win MTVU’s Freshman contest.

Shaun White Designs Right On Target

by The Editors on February 18, 2009

ShauntargetApparently Shaun White’s little 90 day test run of clothing in Target stores last summer went pretty well because the uber box retailer is announcing that it has signed the Red Hot Flying Tomato to design a year-a-round collection for the company.

Shaun and Target decided to collaborate again to produce a fashionable line of apparel inspired by Shaun’s life, along with his interest in music and travel. These influences will be reflected in the hand-drawn art and humor infused throughout the line and is epitomized by the return of the skate monster that debuted in the limited edition launch. The collection will be filled with reasonably priced pieces including: denim, hooded sweatshirts, jackets, graphic tees, wovens and shorts.

Maybe this will bust him up past Tony Hawk on the Forbes list, and maybe get him a little more helicopter time for quick trips to his top secret training halfpipe in Silverton.

Shaun White Is Famous, Apparently

by The Editors on February 12, 2009

Writer David Ebner of Canada’s Globe and Mail breaks down the Shaun White phenomenon in his story U.S. snowboarder at top of fame mountain. And it all comes down to one thing: Shaun is a comfortable, cool guy who is enjoying his life right now.

Whether it’s on the cover of business magazine Fast Company, or Rolling Stone, or in a new film about his visit to the remote Hokkaido backcountry in Japan for sponsor Red Bull, the energy drink, White is casual and never stiff, a relaxed Southern California style, where he grew up and lives, a guy you’d actually like to hang out with. Never mind that he’s a ridiculously amazing halfpipe rider, and is a double threat – a top-tier skateboarder in his spare time, with an eye on the 2012 Summer Olympics in London if skateboarding, as speculated, enters the Olympics.

While we’re not so sure about the snowboard fame lineage coming down from Jake Burton, Craig Kelly, and Terje Haakonsen (we’d put Shaun Palmer in there), it is true that Shaun White is doing the snowboard celebrity thing better than anyone before him has ever done. And a reported $10 million in annual endorsement money helps keep him right there.

Ellis Wins First MMA Fight

by The Editors on February 9, 2009

It was Ryan Sheckler Fight Night at The Grove in Anaheim and apparently former pro skater, satellite radio DJ and all around funny guy Jason Ellis won his match by submitting “Tony Gianopulos with a guillotine choke in the second round.”

Apparently, MMA is the new skateboarding. Yes, that was Sal Masekela on the mic.

Rob Dyrdek’s Wild Grinders?

by The Editors on February 7, 2009

Wildgrinders

When we spoke to Andy Howell last fall about the Artsprojekt website that he had created with Zazzle.com he presented it as a place where serious artists would be given the technology to create custom art products in limited runs. When he said “artists” we never imagined anything like Rob Dyrdek’s Wild Grinders clothing. But Andy certainly spins it well.

“Rob is a visionary, not just as an innovator of street skating, but for continuing to bring skateboarding lifestyle and art to the core and pop culture audiences in compelling ways, without losing sight of his true skateboarding roots,” said Andy Howell, former pro skateboarder and founder of ARTSPROJEKT. “Dyrdek and his Wild Grinders™ crew offer a cool brand for younger skaters, while maintaining authenticity which is crucial to a brand’s success and longevity. They understand what consumers want, and continue to push limits and take it to the next level.”

After looking at the product more closely we’re thinking a deal with Kohls or Kmart might be a better place for Rob’s little homies. But that’s just us.

Shepard Fairey Arrested On Way To Opening

by The Editors on February 7, 2009

44936271The Boston Police Department seems to have a flair for street art themselves as they apparently chose to arrest artist Shepard Fairey on his way to DJ a party celebrating his Friday night February 6, 2009 art show opening at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art.

Police allege that he tagged locations in the Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street area and the railroad trestle by the BU Bridge, said department spokesman Officer James Kenneally. . . Fairey faces arraignment Monday in either Brighton District Court or Roxbury District Court or both, said Suffolk district attorney’s spokesman Jake Wark.

According to Fairey this is the 15th time he has been arrested.

Sheckler’s Fight Night At The Grove

by The Editors on February 5, 2009

Dfl-Logo-Index-DnLooks like the Tapout booth at ASR isn’t the last we’ll see of the action sports / mixed martial arts cross over?

Tomorrow night (February 6, 2009) at The Grove in Anaheim Ryan Sheckler will be hosting Down for Life – Fight for a Cause, to raise money for the Sheckler Foundation.

Athletes scheduled to compete are UFC veterans Kit Cope and Danny Abbadi and pro skateboarder Jason Ellis in his MMA debut. . . . MMAFighting.com will host Affliction Entertainment’s stream of the event at 7 p.m. PST.

Is Jason Ellis actually going to fight? Or is he just going to heckle his opponent to death? Either way, Lil’ Jon is going to perform afterwards.
