Sal Raises $80,000 For Stoked Mentoring

by The Editors on November 5, 2009

1257455579 Sal-290Our favorite E Television announcer Sal Masekela may not have kicked Diddy’s hiney (or bettered Oprah’s 1994 time of 4:29:20), but he did finish all 26.2 miles of the New York City Marathon and in so doing ended up raising $80,000 for Stoked Mentoring, according to a story on UsMagazine.com.

“One hundred percent of the money I raised will go to Stoked.org,” Masekela told Usmagazine.com before the race. After crossing the finish line, Masekela Tweeted: “Well Tweeps, I let you down. Didn’t beat @iamdiddy. Hit a wall from hell at 18. Finished around 5 hrs. Hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

To beat Diddy he needed to be under 4:15. But no matter. He finished and Stoked Mentoring wins big.

Sal Masekala Is Running For His Life

by The Editors on October 26, 2009

6A00D8341C630A53Ef0120A620B065970B-320WiIn six days Sal Masekala will be running in the New York City Marathon to raise money for Stoked Mentoring and to kick Diddy’s ass in the process (“Combs has pledged a donation if that happens”). And he told the Los Angeles Times that he is very scared.

“I’ve never been more scared to do anything in my life,” said Masekela, host of E! Entertainment’s “Daily 10” program and longtime TV host of the winter and summer X Games. “In fact, I think I’d rather paddle into 20-foot Waimea Bay by myself than run in the NYC Marathon. However, this isn’t about me. This is about the at-risk and disenfranchised teens desperately in need of the opportunities ‘Stoked Mentoring’ provides. I’m doing this for them.”

While we find it difficult to believe that Sal is that scared, we will say that we’d much rather watch him paddle out at Waimea during the Eddie than watch him pound NYC pavement, but it’s great that he’s doing it for a good cause. by The Editors on October 25, 2009

Pamela-Anderson-10259-5

While we were doing something else, Pamela Anderson was at a “private home in Malibu” with the US Snowboarding’s Olympic hopefuls . . . frolicking “with celebrity families in 40 tons of snow.”

Olympic snowboard coach Bud Keene was obviously an extremely attentive instructor getting Pam right up on her slippery, pink, Mammoth box. . . click the link for more photos

Gretchen-Bleiler-092909

Last night while we were hunkered down waiting for the Samoa tsunami to hit all the other glamour stars were at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre for the premiere of Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page’s new roller derby film Whip It. Even Covergirl Gretchen Bleiler. One question: where’s Hotel? He looks good on black carpet, too?

Tony Hawk Talks Business With Entrepreneur

by The Editors on September 22, 2009

Tony-Hawk

Seems like the “skateboarder as businessman” angle on Tony Hawk is getting pretty dusty, but that hasn’t stopped Entrepreneur Magazine from using the hook to discuss Tony’s newest video game (and controller) Tony Hawk Ride which comes out November 17, 2009 just in time for Christmas.

How does he feel about the launch?

I’m scared to death about it because I know how much is riding on it, how much Activision has invested in it. I brought this idea to them, and they’ve dedicated two years of development and research, but who knows how it’ll do? It’s a scary prospect. But I know it’s good.

Louie Vito: The Dancing Hobbit

by The Editors on September 21, 2009

Louie Vito
did alright on the first night of ABC’s hit show Dancing With The Stars, you know, once you get past the fact that he’s on the show at all.

He and his parter Chelsie Hightower performed a foxtrot and finished second behind Donny Osmond and Kim Johnson. Here’s what Extra TV had to say about his number:

Professional snowboarder Louie Vito[‘s] . . . smile might be stronger than his dance moves. Carrie Ann said she was surprised by their dance, but she can tell he’s never danced before. Bruno says the performance was “so cute” and it was like watching a “dancing hobbit.” The couple earned a 19 and 8 points for their Salsa relay dance.

“Dancing hobbit?” Right. Coming from a judge Todd Richards described as “dude looks like Mr. Bean” that kind of makes sense.

Tonight Is Louie Night On DWTS

by The Editors on September 21, 2009

Louievito-1

Tonight (September 21, 2009) the new season of the hit ABC series Dancing With The Stars kicks off with a two-hour live show featuring our favorite dancing snowboarder Louie Vito. In an email sent out to industry heads on Sunday, 686’s Mike West encouraged everyone to vote often for Louie.

I’m going to be heading to the live show to give support (as well as get my laugh on…) Yeah, I know there’s been mixed opinions on why he’s doing this (Not to mention he’s all hip hop, only wears XXL and can’t dance to save his life) But at the end of the day, LV’s gonna make the best of it-While we get to laugh our asses off in a good way. . . If you agree, vote for Louie.

Okay. Let’s make this happen. Click here for how you vote.

Louie Vito Updates His Dance Card

by The Editors on September 15, 2009

Louie-Vito-240People Magazine’s Dancing with The Stars Blogger Louie Vito is keeping it real on the dance floor and on the blog getting ready for the two-hour live kick off show for Dancing With The Stars. next Monday.

It is crunch time and now I am ready to step it up. Finally, I have all the steps down and it is now time to fine tune them and add a little extra flare. Moving my hips more in the salsa, watching what my hands do, getting my posture on point for the foxtrot and so on, will be my focus this week. Yes, I am not going to lie, I am nervous for the first show. How can I not be? I am doing something I am not comfortable with in front of the world on live TV. On the flip side, I am excited to get it going. I have been dancing every day, learning and listening for three weeks now and I am ready to show everyone what I can do. Whatever happens this first week, I have had more fun than I ever thought I would.

We can tell by the way he uses his walk, he’s a woman’s man, no time to talk. . . .

Tony Hawk: Comic Punchline. . .

by The Editors on September 8, 2009

Bc

Occasionally, Tony Hawk comes face to face with the realities of his ubiquity. Today, while viewing the September 5, 2009 BC comic strip was one of them, according to Tony’s Twitter feed:
