Anyone who has ridden the canyon at Mt. Waterman knows that it is one of the best, if not the best snowboard run in North America. People who haven’t been there, however, would never believe terrain like this could exist one hour from downtown LA.
Now that the resort has reopened after a five year close, everyone has the chance to experience one of California snowboarding’s best kept secrets. Don’t miss it.

Bruno Prior, a British entrepreneur just picked up the ski resort in Ernen, Switzerland for one Swiss franc (about 90 cents US). The resort includes four chair-lifts, two groomers, a restaurant and 12 miles of ski slopes.
“Mr. Prior will bring new life and work for those who want to live here, and maybe also new children,” says Ruedi Schweizer, whose family is part of a commune that works a small farm, runs a small organic-food store and offers mule trekking for tourists.
Prior, who is recently flush with cash after his family sold one of it’s businesses plans to invest $45 million in the resort. We’ll see how that goes for him.

Snowboarder Eric McConeghy, 28, suffocated to death at Mt. Hood Meadows yesterday, December 27, 2007, after falling into a large hole at the base of a lift tower.
Investigators said the man fell in a snow well at the base of a pole under a chairlift face first. Friends tried to pull him out of the well, authorities said, but he suffocated. . . Authorities have not released the victim’s name.
Though it has been officially ruled an accident, we find it hard to believe the mountain would have allowed those wells to exist. Packing in the snow at the base of lift towers is job number one for rookie ski patrollers.
