Most who appreciate quality snowboard images already know Danny Zapalac. His photography always seems to capture snowboarding in ways we’ve never seen before. In his new book mile seventy eight, Danny has created a collection of images from a trip he took with friends in a 1989 Ford F 350 7.3 liter 4×4 Diesel named The Dreamer.
The book is 8 x 10 in and features 28 pages of hardbound, color offset printed beauty. There are only 500 in the run and they are only $30 each. We highly recommend buying one before they are gone. Click the link for more info.

Nemo’s Trevor Graves and Terry Kidwell. Photo: Brooke Geery
Last night (January 8, 2010) the snowboarding world got together for the Portland stop of the I Am Snowboarding art show in honor of Jeff Anderson at Nemo HQ. YoBeat’s Brooke Geery was there and got all the pictures.
And as this was the only NW stop of I Am Snowboarding, pretty much everyone was there. Terry Kidwell, Dave Seoane, Jamie Lynn, the list goes on. Even Cobra Dog’s Cory Grove was enjoying reminiscing about the olden days when no one did double corks (on purpose) with the people he looked up to.
Sorry we missed it. We’ve figured out how to be two places at once, but we’re finding out it’s nearly impossible to be at four. Click the link for the rest of the story.

Artist Evan Hecox has a show opening at Paris, France’s The Lazy Dog on December 3, 2009. The show titled Strange Nature runs through January 18, 2010. In translation it goes a little something like this:
Evan Hecox draws up the portrait of the gasoline of the city. Its works depict urban scenes or isolated elements, with a quasi kinematic treatment in its sharp contrasts and the abstraction. Hecox takes as a starting point its many voyages through America and Asia. It is fascinated by the complexity of the town landscapes and the unimportant “commuters” with the eye of the idler.

GWAR lead singer Oderus Urungus (a.k.a. Dave Brockie) is apparently a hardcore shred who, like all of us, wanted a pro model. It appears that Sined Snowboards has given him one according to a post on the oderus.com website:
That’s right, own a piece of rock and roll history with the very special limited edition (only 300 made) SINED/Dave Brockie snowboard. For those of you that don’t know it, Dave Brockie is one of the founding members of the grammy-nominated rock group band GWAR, and the malevolent mind and mouth behind GWAR’s supremely evil front-thing and FOX News intergalactic correspondent, ODERUS URUNGUS! But Brockie is much more…a writer (check out his blog at rvanews.com), an illustrator (check out his work at oderus.com) and an avid snowboarder! So when old buddy, huge GWAR fan, and ex-pro rider Ron Bureta got his own company going, the long-held idea of a Brockie snowboard finally became a reality.
The wait is finally over. . .

When it comes to images that capture the very beginning days of snowboarding, no one has a deeper file that photographer Bud Fawcett. Aside from publishing them in the occasional snowboard magazine history story, Fawcett has mostly kept the photos to himself. But according to his blog, that has recently changed.
After many years of avoiding personal requests for many of my snowboarding photos, I finally decided it’s easier to set up an online shop rather than spitting them out one-by-one on my inkjet printer. I just got the 5×7 proofs for a test and the quality is really good. The B&W’s look like the real thing. Check it out, maybe you need a Christmas present for yourself.
Thanks to the online setup some of snowboarding’s most iconic images are now available as t-shirts, mugs, and even 30×40 museum mounted prints. And yes, that includes the photo of Jeff Brushie putting the final nail in the GS coffin at the Op Pro at June Mountain.
