Thanks to help from friends all over the world, 411vm founder Josh Friedberg won the $25,000 Audience Award in the Nikon Festival for his video New York State Of Mind.
The Nikon Festival Audience Award winner is San Antonio resident Joshua Friedberg. He will receive $25,000 as the top fan favorite for his video “New York State of Mind.” The video captured twenty four hours in New York, featuring renowned locations. “I got into video through skateboarding and learned how to shoot by just doing it,” said Joshua Friedberg, Nikon Festival Audience Award Winner. “That’s part of why I think the Nikon Festival is such a great event, it motivated people to be creative and get out there and shoot.” . . . He credits retweets of his Festival video via Twitter by media personalities Bam Margera, Steve Berra and Tony Hawk as a key to his win. Friedberg plans to use the $25,000 to help revive 411 Video Magazine that covers the skateboarding community.
Way for the skate community to pull together. Hope 411vm can climb back on. Follow the jump for all the details.

To commemorate the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the US Postal Service created a snowboarding stamp. The stamp, created by illustrator Steve McCrackenm, features a snowboarder who looks not un-like Scotty Lago. The “first-day-of-issue” ceremonies followed the US Snowboarding Grand Prix halfpipe event last night.
Alan C. Kessler, member, Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service, and Dick Coe, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, are the dedicating officials.
“We are proud to support the Olympics and are pleased to be able to continue the tradition of honoring the Games by issuing postage stamps celebrating different Olympic sports,” said Gov. Kessler.
As usual with postal art, this image appears to be an artist’s mix of tricks and terrain. Follow the jump, check out the stamp, and let us know who it is and what trick they’re doing exactly.

It was three years ago today (January 22, 2007) that Burton Snowboards rolled out their Andy Warhol Foundation collaboration featuring boards, boots, and outerwear decorated with Warhol art. Now, in 2010 Burton’s skateboard company Alien Workshop appears to be doing the same thing, according to a post on their website.
As the preeminent American artist of the 20th Century, Andy Warhol challenged the world to see art differently. This distinctive project presents a new approach to skateboard/artist collaborations by pairing unique examples of Warhol’s groundbreaking artwork with each of the ten iconoclast pro riders sponsored by Alien Workshop. . . .Featuring five pro decks with works from Warhol’s Death & Disaster Series and five pro decks showcasing his iconic Pop works, the complete set is shipped in custom printed board box packaging inspired by Warhol’s box sculptures from the 1960’s.
Andy would likely be happy to see the same company recycling his art over and over again. We’re wondering when the Channel Islands dead artist collab will be announced, or did we already miss that one?

On Thursday January 21, 2010 surf photographer Art Brewer will be presenting a lecture Surf’s Up: 40 Years from the Surf and Sand at Los Angeles, California’s Annenberg Space For Photography. Unfortunately, it is already sold out, but here a little taste of what we’re both going to miss.
Surf’s Up journals 40 years of Art Brewer’s surfing photography as he’s documented surfing, chasing the world’s best surfer and waves around the globe. He will share his perspective from the line up in the surf and on the beach. . . Brewer’s photographs are known for speaking with penetrating truth, enlivened with an edgy wit. His unique colloquial voice is capable of a restrained grandeur evoking an iconic sense of “witnessing” that brings us to the forefront of our attention, alerted to something transcendent in each captured moment…
Wish someone would have told us about this before it was sold out.

Looks like the crew behind Bangmaster General’s Warning have completed their first feature film Machotaildrop featuring Steve Olson, Rick McCrank, and others. Sadly we haven’t seen it yet, but appears to be epic in a seriously jacked up way.
