Tonight, December 6, 2012, Thomas Campbell is posting up at the Thalia Surf Shop in Laguna Beach, California to celebrate the release of his new surf photography book, Slide Your Brains Out. There will also be a musical performance by the stunning smooth Mattson 2.

Party begins at 6 PM. Thalia Surf Shop is located at 915 Coast Highway in Laguna Beach.

Arto Saari’s Life Behind The Lens

Thomas Campbell Slides His Brains Out

The artist/filmaker Thomas Campbell aka T Mossian has a new book out titled Slide your Brains Out.

The first of ten projected volumes in Um Yeah Press’ surf photobook series, Slide Your Brains Out compiles work from the past 15 years. Often lo-fi and gritty, other times lush and saturated, Campbell’s compositions–which include portraits and action shots of some of the best surfers in the world–are always surprising and full of emotion, from melancholy to exultation.

The book features a foreword by The Surfer’s Journal’s Scott Hulet and an afterword by Ed Templeton and if available for purchase at the Mollesk Surf Shop website for $39.95 or on Amazon for $26.37 with free shipping.

Laura Austin + Lomography Gallery

The show is titled Everyone’s A Photographer. The show features images from Chad Muska, Corey Smith, Jared Eberhardt, Jeremy & Claire Weiss, Natas Kaupas, Ian Ruhter, Danny Zapalac, Jason Lee Parry, and Laura Austin herself.

The opening party for the show kicks off Friday night, November 2, 2012 at 7 PM and features free drinks from Pabst, Peligroso Tequila, and O.N.E. Coconut Water with DJ Aaron Castle and others spinning through out the night. The event is free but they’d like you to RSVP to store.losangeles@lomography.com.

Steve Barilotti’s Rick Griffin Documentary

Surf journalist Steve Barilotti is working on a documentary on the life and times of seminal 60s psychedelic artist Rick Griffin (creator of the surf comic Murphy) and he needs your help on Kickstarter.

The Film: “Griffin” is a feature-length documentary that explores the art, life and eccentric spark of one of the world’s least known and most influential 20th Century surrealists. Over the time-warped span of the 1960’s, one-time teen cartoonist Rick Griffin created defining icons for three pillars of west coast counterculture: surfing, psychedelic rock and underground comix.

Barilotti has reach is original Kickstarter goal of $20,000 but there are three days left so you can still help him out with getting this project completed. Click the link for more info.

Spring Break Kicks Open Mammoth

On Mammoth Mountain’s opening weekend (November 9, 2012) Spring Break Snowboards will be hosting a pop-up art show “featuring primitive abstract powder snowboards, photography from Spring Break contributors and original artwork. Musical performance by Luke MacMaster of The Romany Rye, and plenty of on snow fun to kick off California’s first day of shredding this season.

The show opens at the Mammoth’s Grand Sierra Lodge at 5 PM on Friday, November 9, 2012. The Grand Sierra Lodge is located at 1111 Forest Trail, Mammoth Lakes, California.

Arbor Skateboards has launched their new Whiskey street decks just in time of Dia de los Muertos in a collaboration with the art it Sylvia Ji.

This collectible deck is built using Arbor’s, tried and true, bamboo and maple blend to deliver lightweight pop and durability. “By adding bamboo as a deck-side power ply, we create a hybrid maple construction that has a clean Zen flavor, nice return, and long lasting durability,” says Arbor product manager, Max Myers.
