Herbie Fletcher’s Wrecktangles At The Hole

by The Editors on February 5, 2013

Pipeline-Wrecktangle-Xiv

New York City art gallery The Hole is presenting a new show of works by Herbie Fletcher titled Wrecktangles. Here’s how The Hole describes the paintings:

These artworks are massive and vital, like the huge waves this artist was known for pioneering during his fifty-year plus career as a surfer. These pieces are made from the wave-munched fragments of broken boards actually used when surfing giant waves. The thunderous force of the ocean is apparent in these jagged and mishapen “wrecktangles”, but perhaps the most eye-catching component is the various decals, traction pads, fins or logos that show both the personalization of each board and the sponsorship and awards circuits of pro surfing.

Yes, these pieces (like Pipeline Wrecktangle XIV, 2011 above) are broken surfboards fastened together, and apparently they are very collectable. The Wrecktangles show opening party is Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 6 to 9 PM. The show runs through February 28, 2013. The Hole is located at 312 Bowery in New York City.

Birds: Robert Sticky Shaw At AR4T

by The Editors on February 4, 2013

678

Robert Sticky Shaw will be showing new work along with Karlee Mackie (KALM), Lauren Buckingham Over & Katherine Clarke Langlands in a new show titled Birds at Laguna Beach, California’s Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow on Saturday, February 9, 2013.

Birds have been symbols of power and freedom throughout the ages. Rising above the earth and soaring through the skies, legend has it that birds link the human world to divine realms. Birds are strong and mysterious – the majestic bald eagle, a trickster raven and a wise old owl. They are also comical characters – the Blue-footed Booby, large billed Toucan and talking African Grey Parrot. They are part of our lives from the stork bringing us into the world and they live among us as daily fixtures from imagery on currency and clothes to a V of pelicans gliding silently above the ocean.

Birds opens at 6 PM. Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow is located at 210 North Pacific Coast Highway Laguna Beach, California.

World Industries Live Juiced Deck

by The Editors on January 15, 2013

Livejuiced-Deck-Mockup2-1

Just in time for Oprah Winfrey’s two-part confessional interview with the Biggest Liar Of All Time former competitive cyclist but now banned for life Lance Armstrong comes World Industries’ Live Juiced deck.

If you need to ask you don’t need this board. But get it ASAP before they’re sold out. And yes, that’s Sheryl holding his nuts in a jar.

The graphic, created by artist Ron Lemen, features what appears to be a man in cycling shoes, surrounded by bottles of urine, with a syringe in his mouth, tying himself off to shoot up with EPO, baby. For a closer look at the Juiced graphic, follow the jump. It’s good. To check out the rest of the World Industries line-up click the link. [click to continue…]

What they have to say is interesting. And that’s why we’ve linked it up here. Or does that go without saying?

Neal Hendrix Photos At UNIV Garage

by The Editors on December 11, 2012

Nh Flyer-Rectangle

Vert skater, TV host, and photographer Neal Hendrix will present a showing of his images titled Exhibition: Photo at The Garage at UNIV in Encinitas, California on Friday December 14, 2012.

Neal Hendrix has spent the last twenty years living his dream as a professional skateboarder. Over that span, he accumulated a lot of broken bones, a couple million frequent flyer miles, a handful of X-Games medals and a passion to bring home amazing photos from the far-flung lands where skateboarding has taken him. Neal currently skates for Elephant Skateboards and is the Brand Manager at Camp Woodward. . . “Skateboarding has shown me the world. I started out with crappy film cameras, moved to equally crappy digital point-and-shoot cameras, and eventually evolved to respectable tools of the trade,” says Neal. “Throughout that evolution, my creative passion crystalized: looking through a lens is no longer about documenting the places that I’ve skateboarded, but about capturing moments in the lives of people who live so differently from me, who get through their day in unusual ways, and who have never even seen a skateboard.”

The show opens at 7 PM. The Garage at UNIV is located at 1053 South Coast Highway 101, in Encinitas, California. For more info call (760) 942-UNIV.
