Here&#8217;s what ISA President <strong>Fernando Aguerre<\/strong> says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe have always known that our commitment to the global development of surfing goes way beyond competition. The ISA Scholarship Program is a shining example of that commitment, and for me personally, a great source of pride and gratification.. . While relatively small in resources, this program has had a huge impact on the lives of these young people. For the official word from the ISA, please follow the jump.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>ISA Launches Annual Scholarship Program for Underserved Youth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La Jolla, California, September 4, 2020 &#8211; The International Surfing Association (ISA) is proud to announce the continuation of its annual scholarship program aimed at supporting underserved surfers 18 years of age and under.<\/p>\n<p>A total of USD $20,000 will be awarded to surfers based on their financial need and dedication to both surfing and education.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, more than 300 youth surfers around the globe have become ISA scholarship ambassadors, receiving a grand total of USD $328,500 for education, surf equipment, and competition training and coaching.<\/p>\n<p>The ISA Scholarship Program has proven successful in aiding the growth and development of U-18 surfers around the world. In 2019, twelve ISA Scholarship ambassadors from seven nations were selected to compete on their national teams at the VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The application window for the scholarships is now open and closes on September 30.<\/p>\n<p>ISA President Fernando Aguerre said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have always known that our commitment to the global development of surfing goes way beyond competition. The ISA Scholarship Program is a shining example of that commitment, and for me personally, a great source of pride and gratification.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While relatively small in resources, this program has had a huge impact on the lives of these young people. This program puts into practice our mission of a better world through surfing by fostering education and the joy of surfing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been able to meet many of these surfers and watch them grow up throughout the years.
