TONY HAWK AND OTHER SKATE LEGENDS TO DESCEND UPON KENNESAW FOR FREE EVENT
\nHawk, Mike McGill, and other skateboard legends confirmed to appear at Kennesaw Skatepark for Ray Underhill charity event on 6\/19.<\/p>\n
2 June 2016 (Kennesaw, GA) \u2014 Tony Hawk is bringing the 80s back to Kennesaw Skatepark. At least skateboarding\u2019s version of that notorious decade. And he\u2019s not coming alone.<\/p>\n
Hawk and friends have organized the Get Rad For Ray presented by Kennesaw Skateshop charity event to celebrate the life and legacy of one of skateboarding\u2019s all-time greats, Ray Underhill. A Wilmington, North Carolina native, Underhill was a member of the infamous Bones Brigade squad of the 1980s, a teammate of Hawk\u2019s, and known for his smooth skating style. But his friends remember him best for his kindness, wit, and dedication\u2014his true enduring legacies.<\/p>\n
\u201cRay was a great friend,\u201d said Hawk. \u201cWe miss him every day, so we\u2019re coming to Kennesaw to remember him the best way we know\u2014to skate in his honor while helping others!\u201d<\/p>\n
The world lost Ray in 2008, after his long battle with Chordoma, a rare but relentless spinal cancer. To honor his life, Ray\u2019s family and friends have joined the City Of Kennesaw, Georgia and Kennesaw Skatehop to host the Get Rad For Ray skateboarding contest and 80s-themed Legends jam session at the Kennesaw Skatepark in Swift-Cantrell Park. This will be a free public event to celebrate Ray with an amazing display of local and legendary skate talent, and to raise funds for the Ray Underhill Foundation, which supports families affected by Chordoma.<\/p>\n
Get Rad For Ray presented by Kennesaw Skateshop is a family-style event that will feature a festival area with food and vendors, as well as three different skateboarding events. A free beginners\u2019 skate clinic hosted by Kennesaw Skate Shop will start the celebration and get kids new to the Swift-Cantrell Skatepark off to a solid and safe start. An amateur contest will give local talent the opportunity to shine and impress. And the day will conclude with an 80s-themed Legends skate jam, featuring top new talent mixing it up with some of the most famous names in skateboarding\u2014Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Aaron \u201cJaws\u201d Homoki, Kevin Staab, Ben Raybourn, Brighton Zeuner, Lester Kasai, Brad McClain, and Lizzie Armanto among them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an incredible collection of skate talent,\u201d said Hawk. \u201cTop names from the 80s, and today\u2014all skating together in one event. If I weren\u2019t joining them in the session, I\u2019d definitely want to be there to see it!\u201d<\/p>\n
Attendees will have several opportunities to support the Ray Underhill Foundation via donations and raffles throughout the day.<\/p>\n
Skaters wishing to participate in the free morning skate clinic must register at Kennesaw Skate Shop: 3115 Old 41 Hwy, Kennesaw, GA 30144 (Across the street from the skatepark); phone 404-323-3666. Space is limited for the skate clinic, and parents must be present to register minors.<\/p>\n
Skaters wishing to compete in the amateur skate contest must register at www.TheBoardr.com\/GR4R. The amateur contest will have a $35 entry fee.<\/p>\n
The fun kicks off at 11 AM, Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Swift-Cantrell Skatepark and continues through the afternoon. Come help the legends of skateboarding celebrate the life of a true champion, and support the Ray Underhill Foundation\u2019s efforts to assist families affected by Chordoma.<\/p>\n
