The two-part competition, featuring a bowl contest held in San Jose, CA and a street contest held in Scotts Valley, CA honored skate hero and legend Tim Brauch.

Its actually quite difficult to decide what the best part of the bowl is with Pro, Masters (40 and older), From (15 and younger), Amateur, and Girls divisions each giving a fantastic show. Every year the contest brings out a strong line up of pros- this years roster included Michael Brookman, Josh Rodriguez, and Sky Siljeg just to name a few. The competition’s Masters division regularly brings out legendary veterans like local Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, and Christian Hosoi, skaters that turned pro more than 30 years ago, but continue to shred hard. These skaters created some of the sports most well known tricks and built the sport into what is today.

On the other hand, the contest also boasts an incredible lineup of mind-blowing up and coming amateurs and groms that are sure to be the future of this sport. Tristan Rennie (14 years old) threw down a Madonna winning him first place in the Groms division. 10 year old sensation Kiko Francisco threw huge airs and clean grinds landing him in 5th. The Girls, a Division that sees more and more skaters each year, shredded hard as well with Lizzie Armanto taking home first.

The second day of the contest was held at the Tim Brauch Skate Park in Scotts Valley, CA near Santa Cruz where Tim loved to skate. The park’s versatile features including bowls, rails, and stairs offered competitors a variety of options and challenges. The competition could not have been more close- street champion Jesse Arrowwood, 17, beat the runner up AJ Robinson, 19, by fractions of a point. One of the biggest honors however went to Camillo Arana, who took home the Tim’s Spirit Award for his combination of relentless competitiveness and exceptional sportsmanship.

The skaters weren’t the only ones that had a good time. Attendees enjoyed food, raffles, carnival games and swag from the events many sponsors including Etnies, Vans, Powell-Peralta, and Independent. “This is always such a rewarding experience,” said Cindi Ferrera Busenhart, President of SESSIONS, the locally based company that organizes the event, “Tim was not only a fantastic athlete, but such an exceptional person. We love honoring him, remembering him with this community that knew him well, and sharing his story with those who didn’t get the chance.”

All proceeds of the annual competition go to the Tim Brauch Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization that carries on Tim’s vision of engaging youth and teaching respect, self-confidence, and giving back to the sport and community. The foundation promotes the values of action sports in the community by funding skate parks and creating scholarships. The contest has been put on the last 14 years by SESSIONS Outerwear and this years sponsors include: WA-TAHH, Etnies, Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, Powell Peralta, Vans, Tim Brauch Foundation, Independent and World Cup Skateboarding.

Saturday 9/22 Results
Groms Division
1st Tristan Rennie, 14, Rielto, CA
2nd Griffin Chase, 13, Monroe, WA
3rd Bobo Kuamo’o, 13, Nanakuli, HW
4th Shane Sullivan, 15, Brentwooc, CA
5th Archer Braun, 15, San Diego, CA
6th Kiko Francisco, 10, Carson, CA

Girls Division
1st Lizzie Armanto, 18, Santa Monica, CA
2nd Julie Kindstrand, 19, Santa Ana, CA
3rd Allysha Bergado, 16, El Segundo, CA
4th Justyce Tabor, 16, Seaside, OR
5th Abby Zsarnay, 18, Santa Paula, CA
6th Arianna Carmona, 14, Buena Park, CA

Masters Division
1st Steve Caballero, 47, Campbell, CA
2nd Mike McGill, 47, Encinitas, CA
3rd Eddie Elguera, 49, Palm Desert, CA
4th Christian Hosoi, 45, Huntington Beach, CA
5th Mark Partain, 47, Hood River, OR
6th Jeff Hedges, 46, San Francisco, CA

Pro Division
1st Michael Brookman, 19, Monclaire, CA
2nd Josh Rodriguez, 20, Banning, CA
3rd Sky Siljeg, 18, Bothell, WA
4th Chris Russell, 16, Hermosa Beach, CA
5th Daniel Curevo, 22, Encinitas, CA
6th Josh Mattson, , Boulder Creek, CA
Sunday 9/23 Results (Amateur)
1st Jesse Arrowood
2nd AJ Robinson
3rd Derck Finch
4th Camillo Arana
5th Angel Ortega
6th Steven Smith
7th Jesse Santoyo (tie)
7th Connor Kepp (tie)
9th Zachary “Ducky” Kovacs

Last weekend Sessions and the skate community celebrated the life of legendary skateboarder Tim Brauch at the 14th Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest in San Jose and Scotts Valley, California.
